Ve RA YL SEER celebrate 60th anniversary by Mabel Cawker On Sunday, Dec. 2 a well known couple Mr. and Mrs. Clarke Williams of Nestleton celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in the Nestleton Community Centre. Clark Wallace Williams and Avelyn Phyllis McMullen were married in Pontypool on Dec. 10, 1919. The newlyweds began farm- ing in Cartwright and besid- es raising two sons and a daughter, became involved in community, Eastern Star and Masonic Lodge activi ties. Later on, after their family Paint job Police report that a Bige- low Street woman found paint splashed on her car causing $300 damage. An unoccupied home near Nestleton was reported broken into last week with liquor valued at over $100 takrs Ponce report that a 23 channel CB radio was stolen from a car parked at Mark's Maintenance in Nestleton. oh q 7 A) 1 5 were grown up and married, they sold the farm and moved to Port Hope. For seven years they remained in Port Hope, making many new friends, but family ties made it easy for then. to return to Cartwright in 1961. This young couple receiv- ed hundreds of cards, gifts, floral tributes and congratu- lations from a host of friends giving ample testimony of the love and esteem in which they are held. Congratula- tory plaques were received from Prime Minister Joe Clark, Premier William Davis and the Municipality of the Township of Scugog Mayor Jerry Taylor. A special plaque of their family tree and a 60th wood- en wreath with a diamond cut out in the centre of the wreath were treasured family gifts. Word has been received that a plaque is on the way from the Queen. Friends invited to pour tea for this gala occasion were Mrs. Margaret White, Mrs. Ella Bowers, Miss Elva Orchard, Mrs. Ruth Thomp- son, Mrs. Bernice Gibson, Mrs. Shirley Nicholls, and Mrs. Della Edgerton. The family, Arnold, and Ny ARE RNS Jean, Ronald and Joyce, Phyllis and Doug. Fallis and a number of grandchildren received over 300 guests from Peterborough, Port Hope, Cobourg, Lindsay, Norwood, Oakville, Picker- ing and surrounding area. Delicious refreshments were served throughout the afternoon to a great number of friends in attendance by the Nestleton United Church Women. Itis a joy to see Clarke and Avelyn as active as ever, getting younger as the years pass. They have been bless- ed with a gloriously eventful life together with varied int- erests. 60 years of married life is an event not too many couples are fortunate enough to celebrate and its only the few reaching this goal that can look back on a life filled with complete happiness and a host of wonderful memor- ies. We, in this area pay tribute to a most charming friendly fun-loving couple, and may they enjoy many more happy years together in the village of Nestleton where their friends will always have a warm, grac- ious welcome at Clarke and Avelyn's home at any time.
