BETAS NAR E IN\AREY TA Sy LS "A'" teams too strong for Atoms Play good hockey, but drop three games Malmeont Atoms et three tough teams Thursday, Friday and Sunday this past week, meeting Oshawa, Bay Ridges and Whitby, Triple "A" and "A" division teams, Port being classed in "C" division. The boys lost all three games, but displayed some good hockey for their. viewing fans. The' Malmont Farms Atoms travelled to Oshawa on Thursday, November 15. The Atoms went down to defeat by a score of 9-0, but the boys should hold 'their heads high: - -Port Atoms didn't let up for one minute in the game. They played hard and did their best to the gruelling end. Robbie Brown 'was brought up from the Selects for the game and did a fine job. It is unfortunate We are in such a tough league but the boys are doing fine, register- ing five wins and 5 losses to this date. More practice time would be most helpful to the boys and coaches but unfortunately nothing can be done about that either. The Atoms hadn't been on skates since the previous weekend, prior to meeting Oshawa. Get your shovels ready, Port: Dave, Dave and "Punch", we'll soon be able to hit the lake for a few practices! The Malmont Atoms played host to Bay Ridges on Friday, November 16th. The Port team pulled an amazing lead of 3-0 in the first half of the first period. Bay Ridges gathered themselves to- gether and scored five unanswered goals; two in the remainder of the first period and three in the second period. Port's Yourth goal was scored with 3 seconds remaining in the second period. Port started off with a goal in the third but Bay Ridges replied with three goals, ending the game 9-5. Scott Feasby was missing from the line-up due to ill- ness. Dave Culbert, Dave Burnett, and Brian Dean héld up the defensive end well. - Five of Bay Ridges goals were scored on power plays. Port picked up six penalties in this game. Scorers for John Harman from Steve Durham; Bobby Goble from Ray Daniels; Robbie Baker from John Harman; Dave Burnett from Brad Menzies; Blair Phillips from Defeat Pickering 3-1 lose against Uxbridge by Sandra Sorley On Thursday November 15, Port Perry Pearce Auctioneers travelled to Pickering to a winning score of 3-1. Pickering hadn't forgot Port Perry in past hockey games and tried to use hard-checking tactics. However, they were unsuc- cessful in their attempts. Mat Durward banged in the first goal assisted by Claire Cornish and Derek Fitz- gerald. Pickering - then tied the score and the pressure was on, but that didn't stop Jarett Harman with the second goal assisted by Mat Durward. Michael Feasby secured the score with the 3rd and final goal assisted by Michael Sorley. Chris McConnell was sharp in front of the net to . help keep the boys on top of the game. On Saturday, # November 17, in Sunderland, Pearce Auctioneers wére defeated 1-0 against our long time rivals, Uxbridge. The boys just couldn't seem to. "click that afternoon, and as hard as, they tried, "they couldn't e a goal in the Uxbridge net. ~Please come out and watch the Novice All Stars play on home ice Fri. November 23. On Sunday night the Malmont Atoms met Whitby team in Bréoklin. The first period was end to end hockey with fast skating and quick checking with no scoring for « either team. Port opened the scoring in the second period with a goal by John Harman on a rebound from Robbie Baker and David Culbert. Whitby soon retaliated with two goals with Port missing many scoring chances. In the third period Whitby scored two unanswered goals, bringing the score to 4-1. - The goalies for Port - Stacey Ballingall and Steven Whalen played well in the net, coming up with several good saves. The Whitby team is the roughest check- ing team we have met to date. Dave Burnett was isting and Warren Geer was moved back on defense for this game. The boys all played a strong game of hockey and did a good job of checking to hold this strong Whitby team to a 4-1 score. The. Malmont Farms Atoms meet Whitby again this Friday evening at 8 p.m. on home ice.
