bs B ® | by Mrs. Earl Reader On Tuesday evening the Grace U.C.W. sponsored a very successful euchre and bake sale with 14 tables of euchre. Participants arriv- ed from various parts of the Island including the Beaches and also a few beyond the Island. So it made a good opportunity for- getting acquainted as well as a jolly time and a chance to pur- chase goodies. All are look- ing forward to the next one in December. The Grace U.C.W. will meet on Nov. 28 at the home of Mrs. Heidi Krieg. This takes the place of a Dec. meeting. The same evening the Head U.C.W. will meet in the Community hall at 6:30 p.m. for their mystery sister supper. Please remember to bring a gift between $2. and $3. Last Wednesday - evening ladies of the Head commun- ity enjoyed a pot luck dinner together in' the community Hall. Thirty-one residents from the beaches and other non-members had accepted the invitation from the members of the Head U.C.W. and shared a veritable ban- quet with a get acquainted period and an evening of fun. Much credit for the fine evening goes to Freida Coch- rane, Ilda Duff, Alva Thomp- son and Marylyn Heayn who --- were on the committee assisted by the President Helen Hortop. It required phoning groups, Christmas decorations, and making of Christmas favours. The new tables too were quite an asset in a friendly setting. We were pleased to have "unexpected guests in two refugees from Mississauga who had found shelter in the edman. As a clean-up was accom- plished at a fairly early hour, several members decided to call on a non-present member, Mrs. Elizabeth Stichmann, to share some conversation and' goodies with her. There are now about 35 Jome of an aunf, Mrs. Helen ¥ _ Head U.C.W, cook books left 30 hurry with your order if you want one. They include 100 recipes chosen from all the members along with beautiful colour plates, many hints on cooking, and several hints for healthful living. Local business people have added suggestions for their business along with appropriate designs. The cover itself is very individual and attractive as it is a lovely picture of the Head Memorial and NOW Museum Church where the organi- zation began. For weeks we have heard much controversy over the location of a new library. Now we know it is settled and the next step is the raising of funds. Accordingly a group of ladies started Diminishing Teas. One lady invites 12 "Best Seller POCKET BOOKS 1000's in Stock PORT PERRY STAR 235 Queen Street 985-7383 guests who pay for an after- noon tea.
