SHARP - CANON TEXAS INSTRUMENT CALCULATORS & Adding Machines PORT PERRY STAR 235 Queen Street 985-7383 Forward Wayne Blanch- ard was a key offensive threat although he was held off the score card. He had Lovering beaten cleanly but he hit the post with a slap shot late in the period. Port Perry got one goal back in the Oshawa controll- ed opening period. Dave Jackson barrelled down the left wing side of the ice and put a neat pass on Mark Jobb's stick in front of Randy Pooler. Jobb beat Pooler with 4:20 to go. Port opened the middle period by carrying the play to their opponents. Their foréchecking paid off when left winger Rick Sheehee intercepted a clearing pass inside the blue line and rifled a slap shot by Pooler to bring the teams even. For the remainder' of the' period it looked as though Port would go ahead. Osha- wa did not enjoy the prolong- ed periods of pressure on Lovering that they had earl- ier in the fray. Conversely, Port had more chances than in the first period. Momentum switched back to Oshawa late in the period when defenceman Ken Sher- ban scored on a wicked drive from the point off the face off in the Port zone. It was a low drive on Lovering's glove hand that came with 28 seconds remaining. Oshawa put the game on ice with three goals in the. concluding frame. Dave PORT PERRY STAR -- Wed., November 14, 1979 -- 27 Fischer got the first one at 1:25 from MacDonald and MacDonald gained his third point when he set up Leonard Markov. Oshawa's last goal came, on an exciting play as Duig- an and Craig MacLeod broke in on a two on one rush. Duigan 'passed off and scored on a rebound when MacLeod's shot was blocked and Lovering was down on the ice. It came at the 17:23 mark. Jackson and Sherban exchanged rough Remem- brance Day greetings late in the game when they got their sticks up at each other. Port Perry has one point, last week's tie with Sonya, in four games. Baptist re-match makes for better hockey game The rematch between these two teams, proved by far to be a more interesting contest than the 13-0 romp for Port Perry last time out. Fenelon Falls opened the scoring at 8:10 on their only goal of the night when Jeff Goodhand, after making a dazzling end-to-end rush, pulled the Port netminder too far out to his right and fired it in the far side. Port players were wakened and from then on it was all Port Perry. Steve Ashmore got his first goal of the season to tie the score at 9:32, poking in a loose puck from a scramble in front of the net. John Michel unleashed one of his booming shots, after taking a pass from brother Harry, to put Port Perry ahead to stay at 11:51. Dave Michel, one of Port's brightest young hopes got his first of the night on a high, hard wristshot aftér taking a centering pass in full flight to widen the gap to two at 14:29. The first period was capp- ed by Bert Michel who was fed through traffic by Harry in the slot, and converting his opportunity at 18:10 to give Port Perry a little more breathing room at 4 to 1. A slightly shaky Chris OFFICE SUPPLIES For all Your Requirements PORT PERRY STAR 235 Queen Street 985-7383 Cd MacAleese tightened up in the second period to shut off the Port Perry attack while the score remained unchanged. Good solid hockey dominated by Port Perry, who did not get as many clear chances as in the first. Rob Michel played steady in the Port net, shutt- ing out Fenelon Falls in the last two periods. Dave Michel capped off the scor- ing at 18:26 of the third for his second of the night. Solid play by both teams, with goalie Chris MacAleese being a standout after sett- ling down, and Jeff Good- hand who helped to generate what little offence Fenelon Falls enjoyed, making their mark. Port's standouts were all Michels, with Harry and John with two assists each and Bert with a goal and an assist, and Dave with two goals. An added bright spot was the fine play of two new- comers, Steve Ashmore and Ken Elliot. Playing regular shifts with older, more ex- perienced players have helped them to make a con- tribution to the team. What will probably amount to Port's toughest challenge of the season comes next Saturday, Nov- ember 17, 6:00 at Little Britain.
