There were numerous minor peialties in the last two periods, causing two lengthy delays as the score- card had to be checked and corrected. Another adjourn- ment came at the end of the middle period as Peter- borough left the ice, to the protestations of Port Perry coach Ron MacAllister, who wanted the teams to continue playing so they would have enough time to finish the match by the 11:00 P.M. curfew. They did not make it so the end came with 7:54 showing on the clock, in the third period. Port Perry opened the first period scoring 2:40 after the opening face off. Bob Westly tied the score at one when he dribbled a shot between Archibald's legs at 3:46 and Doug Ogilvie put the Petes ahead to stay when he shot past Archibald after the puck stopper had been fein- ted out of position. The second point was not entirely Archibald's. fault as it came while Port Perry was at a manpower disadvantage. Earlier Archibald had made a brilliant stop at point blank range off Chuck MacMillan. Port Perry fell into a rash of minor penalties in the second, setting up three Peterborough markers, and allowing the match to get out of reach. The first goal came with Thompson in the penalty box. MacMillan eluded the Port defence and scored on Archibald. After Archibald had been removed in favour of Warren Nicholishen, Port was given three minor infractions on Tony Oxley, Thompson, and Kane, caus- ing them to play two men down for over two minutes. The Petes quickly took advantage of this situation. Bernie Douner deflected a slap shot into the net and was followed by another goal a short while later. The teams played on even terms in the final period as each side counted for two goals.
