C and B Livestock scored the most impressive victory as they shut out Brian's Towing 6-0. It was the first match on the three bout card. Don Phinney led C & B with a goal and three assists. His first goal came with less than a minute to play in the first period after he took a pass from Ron Redman and scored on Towing goalie Wayne Cox. Bill Thompson was serving a penalty at the time. The shot gave C & B a 2-0 lead. C & B's first score also came on a power play with John Ihnat off. It came 12:25 into the game as C & B put lots of pressure on Cox. The first good chance was Doug Scott parked himself on the edge of the crease but had his point blank range shot deflected over the boards. The goal came moments later when defenceman Mike Healey passed to Ken Jeff- rey who scored from the left circle. In the second period Rob Evans blasted in his first of two goals with 6:04 to play. He gunned it from the face off circle to his left, Late in the period C & B blueliner Harvey Parrinder was hit along the boards in his own end and was shaken up. He lay prone for several seconds before arising and heading to his bench under his own power. He returned to the ice in the last session. C & B added three points in the last fifteen minutes to cement the win. Evans scored his second from Phin- ney, and defenceman Randy Crawford assisted on the fifth goal. C& B, the defending cham- pions, were missing three talented broomers who were serving suspensions from last season fights. Mark Lee, Ken Bryant, and Bill Owen will be helpful additions when they return. CLOSE MATCH Blackstock edged Emmer- son Insurance 2-1 in the second game on goals by K. Dalton and S. Hawes. Steve Robinson replied for Emm- erson. Blackstock controlled most of the opening period play but could not score. One of the definite bright spots was goal tending as both Clay Lovering and Rob Franssen played excel- lent games. Port will be playing in a , much stronger league this year than in the past. The team is still carrying a few extra players. Once the line up is set and the boys have a chance to play together as a unit they have every indica- tion of being competitive with teams from these larger population centers. Blackstock tied the score in the middle frame with 10:50 to play as Dalton blast- ed in a shot. One Emmerson player was so distraught over the play that he slamm- ed his stick down on the ice, shattering it into splinters. The game got a little nasty about the middle of the per- iod. Elbows, sticks, and shoves were commonplace as players met along the ice surface. Hawes scored the winner as he deflected a shot from the blue line into the net with 10:18 to go. Utica Farm Auto defeated Rick Larocque Electric 2 to 1 in an exciting game. Larocque was helped by the last minute addition of defenceman Colin Wackett who had arrived from Toron- to where he attends Univers- ity. Bill Bridge scored Lar- ocque's only goal after just 21 seconds had elapsed. He cruised in on netminder Don Card untouched and flipped the ball past him. The goal was unassisted. Throughout the game both sides came up with some sharp defensive plays. One of the best scoring chances came in the second period as Larocque was foiled on a three on one attempt. Tim Ashbridge did not miss, hovever, as he finaliz- ed a two on one break that had the Larocque rear- guards cleanly beaten. Jack Monsona netted the winner with a scant 47 sec- onds to go in the game as he emerged from a scramble in the goal mouth with the ball and scored. The goal drew a tremen- dous arguement from the Larocque players. Wackett and Bridge led the charge to the referee, claiming the Monsona was in the crease. The official disagreed, so the point stood.
