18 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, August 29, 1979 SRO Coaches Rob Cooper and Wendell Peterson guided their team to victory in the Squirt House League » Tournament on Saturday with a convincing 15-5 win in the final game over Nonquon Sluggers from Seagrave. Second row: Brad Menzies, Derek Fitzgerald, Alan Shepstone, Alan Peters, Todd Mantel, Jason Cooper, and Chris Geer. by Rob Cooper Saturday was a big day at Palmer Park as 7 Squirt teams wrapped up a great season of baseball. An en- thusiastic group of fans were shown some good ball by all the teams involved, with the team sponsored by Irwin Smith Music taking the championship over the team from Seagrave-Nonquon Gardens. Consolation winners were Downson's Red and White who beat our Port Perry Star. Other teams offering some great competition were Seven teams in Squirts championship Utica Auto Body, Swamp Garage and Wayne's Auto Parts. This time the game was all Scugog's with the play being in the Spart- Ken Huggins, number 5, started the scoring on a penalty kick, then came Scu- gog's 2nd goal by Ean Porter number 11 on a free kick. Playing a very strong game Ken Huggins, number 5, gu another ball past the Spartan goalie to end the first half 3-0 for Scugog. At the 5 minute mark of the second Ball Hockey Warriors vs. Flames Stu Cochrane, Kevin Mar- tens and Phil Cochrane each scored once to lead the Warr- iors to a 3-1 win over the Flames. This game was the first of a 2 game total goal semi-final. i The Flames jumped into an early lead at 3:43 of the first frame on Dean Abra- ham's marker. Assists went to Rob Moore. The Flames put heavy pressure on the Warriors through the whole first period, but the Warr- ior's goalie, Ray Gibson stood his ground and only allowed the one goal. The goaltending of Gibson seem- ed to spark the Warriors as they replied three times to win. Rob Morris picked up two assists for the Warriors, Stu Cochrane, Mike Mec- Quade and Ken Martens each had one. Bulldogs vs. Brians All through the regular season, the Bulldogs have had a tendency to blow 2-0 leads. The Dogs did it again, as Brians replied twice in the third to end the game at 2-2. This game was also the first of a 2 game total goal semi- + final. Dog's goal scorers Lions clobber Spartans 7-0 ans end most of the game. - half our Ken Huggins, num- ber 5, got another nice goal. Keeping the play at the Spartans end paid off again when at the 20 minute mark Richard Ginn, number 7, kicked another one in. At the 35 minute mark, Ken Hugg- ins, number 5, got 2 more quick goals to end the game 7-0 for the Scugog team. Good work fellows. That makes up for the last game. Next game on August 29 at Port Perry High School. Please be there at 6:15 for kick off at 6:30. Warriors drop Flames Bulldogs tie Brians were Rob Kroonenberg and Paul Beare. Assists went to Chas. Brown, Tim Thompson .and Greg Kroonenberg. Brian's goal scorers were John Milne and Jim Bathe. Assists went to Jim O'Neill, Tom Bathe, Dave Doorens- pleet and Shawn Partridge. The finals begin next Mon- day night, September 3rd at 7:00 p.m. Be There. Ladies share low gross by Marg Boynton A total -of 36 ladies were present at Summerlea Golf Course on August 21 for the ladies golf league games. Low gross for the day, with a 37 was shared by Lucy and . Carol Wilson. Low net went to Pat Prakken and Bev Brown with 22 each. The Pot of Gold was once again not won, so golfers will have a chance again on August 28th.
