Children develop French skills at camp The Durham Region Family YMCA is offering an opportunity for children between the ages of 5 and 12 to develop and enhance their French language skills in the Camp Francais day camp program. Scugog W.l. by Clara Dowson P.R.O. The regular annual meet- ing of the Scugog Island W.1. met in the Community Hall Wed. evening June 20 with 20 members and 3 visitors in attendance. The President welcomed everyone in her usual pleasant manner and the meeting opened by sing- ing the opening Ode and repeating the Mary Stewart Collect. Motto-Each generation makes its own accounting to their children (by Robert F. Kennedy) and was given by Eva Mercado. Roll call was bring a picture of your grandparents or oldest an- cestor. Minutes were read by Bet- ty Ann Freeman and she also gave the Treasurers report in the absence of our treasur- | er Mrs. C. Haigh. Madeline Cawker reported on the District Annual held in Stouffville United Church May 24th. Doreen Adam reported for the auction sale July 14th. Pick up day is July 7th. Each member is requested 2 pies or 1 pieand 1 dozen tarts unless otherwise requested different. The Award Committee will look after picking student for award in the fall. The W.I. picnic July 10th at Uxbridge. South Ontario will be the hostess. Everyone will meet at the Fish and Chip corner, each bringing their own cutlery and bever- age. The July meeting will meet at Dorean Adam's July 18th at 12 noon. Bring food, bathing suits and towels for a pool party. Pot luck lunch- eon and social activities for members and their children. The fair committee will choose the display for the Port Perry fair. Meeting closed by singing / 0' Canada. The Durham Region Family YMCA introduced Camp Francais into its Day Camp Program last summer. Camp Francais has been designed to meet the language needs of those children with no previous exposure to French; those who are attending French immersion classes; franco- phones; and children who have been exposed to French throughout the school year. The campers will ex- perience all the activities of aregular day camp program such as arts & crafts, sing songs, and hikes.
