May 30) you will be able to enjoy another hot luncheon at the Island United Church from 11:30 to 1:30 PM sponsored by the "Grace" U.C.W. On Tues. everyone was pleased with the large num- ber who came out to vote on the Island. It was noted that the number of eligible voters was over 900. It was there- fore necessary to set up a fourth table. The older ones commented on the changes thro' the years when one table was sufficient with men serving as D.R.O.and Polling Clerk. Neighbours sat on the benches around the old box stove and chatted for awhile and nearly every- one was known by Mr. Sid Chandler, in charge. We were pleased to see several ailing people who were in- terested enough to make the effort on Tues. to vote. At church on Sunday we were pleased to welcome another Island citizen into the life of the church when Mr. and Mrs. John Davis (of the former Carter farm) presented their infant son Bradley John for Holy Bap- tism, welcomed by Elder Geo. Samells and witnessed by grandparents and great grandparents who were pre- sent for the occasion and have been well known by Island folk for many years. It was also our pleasure to welcome Mr. and Mrs. Jos- eph Clark formerly from Newfoundland and now re- siding at Sunrise Beach. Several people have inti- mated that they are interest- ed in joining the church or having membership trans- ferred from their former home church. If you have considered this but have not been contacted, please phone Rev. Clark. Before the end of June there will be Sunday School outings and awards, so don't give up on attendance. Two groups or individuals have shown interest in the Baptismal Bowl or a Font to hold the Bowl. The stands are usually quite expensive to purchase, but someone might be interested in mak- ing one and might have good ideas of a design. Therefore if your are interested, would . you please submit your de- sign, choice of wood and price to Bowie Gerrow. It would have to make use of the Bowl already purchased. There have been seven bap- tisms so far this year and the numbers are increasing. The Community Dance on Saturday night was well att- ended with all tickets sold. The next Community So- cial event is a picnic at Bird's Eye Park on June 17 from 11 to 4 PM. Everyone will bring some lunch which will be enjoyed first. While that settles, there will be races of all kinds. This will be followed by swimming for which there is a charge. However there will be no admission charge to the Park. This Saturday everyone is looking forward to the Ann- ual '"Canoe the Nonquon RUBBER STAMPS fast delivery PORT PERRY STAR 235 Queen Street 985-7383 race.
