10 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, May 30, 1979 Cigarettes, peanuts, chips and a friendly smile were delivered by one of the many girls serving refreshments. Barb Carnegie put the final touches on John Stewart's face? & ALBERT AUTO 585 KING STREET Cabaret '79 ... an evening of fun and frolic!!! '""Fantastic", "Terrific!" Thats just some of the hundreds of comments issued last Saturday night at the close of Cabaret '79, which played to a packed house at Town Hall 1873. After a very successful showing of Cabaret two years ago, and the continual prodding from the public to stage the programme again, director-producer Diane Lackie came through with flying colours co-ordinating another highly successful show. But as Mrs. Lackie told the '"Great", Ce, s 985-3311 % EF DON'T NEGLECT THE EXTRAS THAT INCREASE THE VALUE OF YOUR CAR! "It was a group effort," she exclaimed. Cabaret '79 was initiated this year in the hopes of raising funds to help pay for the Heintzman Grand Piano that was purchased earlier this year at a cost of approxi- mately $10,000. And to that end, it was also a success. When the Star spoke to Where there is pretty girls there is always plenty of attention, and these young ladies got their share of Town Hall 1873 treasurer Dave Muir Monday morning he said that although they have not had a chance to get any final figures, at this point it looks as if the produc- tion will have raised about $1500 for the piano fund. This figure he explained includes $800 in admission fees and another $600 for food and drinks. To give some indication as to the impact of the show to the more than 200 people present, this story comes to light. A young man who came to the show reluctantly applause for their dance routine. after his wife bought tickets to the show was not pleased at all about having to attend and was quite solemn about the prospect of spending his evening at the hall. But, after the show was com- pleted he wrapped his arm around a friend and ex- claimed "I haven't had such a good time in years." And that was pretty much the reaction. Everyone had: a very positive attitude about the performance and are already looking forward to the next time it will be staged. Cal Cochrane and friends had them clapping and stomping to their music. Photos by: J. Peter Hvidsten and Cam Muir
