"General Motors dealers in Canada sold more cars in March this year than in any other month in history," Richard M. Colcomb, Vice President and General Sales Manager, announced last week. '"The new any-month record of 47,134 passenger car deliveries in March surpassed the previous record high of 47,067 set in June, 1978, and exceeded last March by 32.4 percent or 11,545 units. . New sales records were also established for trucks and total vehicles for the month of March, as well as for both cars and trucks for the first quarter of the calen- dar year and the first half of the model year. Truck deliveries of 16,897 in March attained a new high for the month exceeding the prior record of 14,361 in March 1977 by 2,536 or 17.7 percent and topping the 14,231 of March, 1978 by 18.7 percent of 2,666. Total vehicle sales in March of 64,031 were also at a new high for the month, beating the long-standing record of 49,853 set in 1973 and ahead of last March by 28.5 percent or 14,211. "The high level of cus- tomer activity in General Motors dealerships across the country is most timely", Mr. Colcomb said. We are currently previewing our brand new, redesigned and re-engineered compact models across Canada and will be introducing them to the public on April 19th. This unprecedented wave of buying so early in the year is certainly indicative of a high level of customer interest and a significant demon- stration of consumer con- fidence and preference for products designed and engineered for a changing world, another phase of which begins with the intro- duction of the new front- wheel-drive compacts.
