April 12 Prince Albert news by Mrs. Les Beacock I reckon all you young children enjoyed your chocolate egg or bunny during Easter. On April 8, Palm Sunday a very good size attendance made up the congregation for the Confirmation service. Rev. R. Brawn's message 'Miracle of Friendship', lent valuable food for thought. During the hour, our minister inducted three girls Shirley Chambers, Shelly McCullough, Laura Robinson into church membership and they were welcomed by elder, Mrs. W. Wozney on behalf of the congregation. Vice presi- dent of the U.C.W., Mrs. L. Pereman presented each new member with a New Testament. We were favoured in having a guest Mrs. D. Lonsdale from Myrtle who rendered a beautiful vocal number "Hozanna' accom- panied by Linda Hunter at the piano. Offering was gathered by Wayne Ander- son and Roy Robinson. This drink was concocted by doc- tors at Brompton Hospital in London, England - a 'palliative care' hospital specializing in terminally ill patients, and the cocktail is now used in many countries. Mr. As cancer was discovered some six years ago. An obstruction of the bowel proved to be malignant - and a colostomy was performed. After the surgery, the cancer ap- peared to be stopped. Four years later another tumour the size of a grapefruit was discovered. Implanted OPPERS BROS. radiation material dissolved the tumour and ex- tended Mr. A.'s life by two years. The third cancerous growth was found a year ago, this time the invasion has progressed too far. The research into cancer care has not developed far enough {o halt this severe a form of cancer. Through your contributions to the local volunteers of the Canadian Cancer Society, research may soon find ways to prolong the life of someone like Mr. A. Meanwhile, research has uncovered preventative measures you can take to lessen your chances of having cancer. More about that next week.
