Cornish Wrestling Team hosted three other schools in a day of elementary school wrestling. Teams from Joseph Gould in Uxbridge, Beaverton Public School and Thorah Central Public School along--with boys from R.H. Cornish duelled in seventy-seven bouts to decide winners in fourteen weight classes ranging from 64 lbs. and under to 150 lbs. and over (Open Class)., Based on Gold, Silver and Bronze medal standings an overall team winner was declared. Thorah Central won the team championship with 5 golds and a number of silver and bronze. The Cornish team, which has only been practicing one night a week since January 11th did very well. Cornish gold medal winners were Bruce McHugh (64lb.), Mark Penny (83 1b.) and Tony Sherman (150 open class). Silver medallists included Dave Fulford (106 1b.), Jimmy Powell (115 1b.), Cliff Russell (123 1b.), Paul Ruesink (142 1b.), and Bill Miller (136 1b.). Bronze medallists were Ray Meisner (90 lb.) and Ken Huggins (121 1b.). Other boys on the R.H. Cornish team who wrestled extremely well were John Shaw, Scott Boyd, Mike Cole, Robbie Page, Pat Bertrand, Jim Lamb, Bob Leighton, Kyle Dinaut, and Tom Walsh. : The R.H. Cornish coaches are Mr. Gordon Taylor, Vice Principal, at Cornish and volunteers Mr. Keith Moxley and Mr. Phil Bertrand. Assists went to Vaughan McKee, Brian Stevenson and Jeff John- stone (2). Congratulations boys, you weathered the storm quite well. This Saturday, the Legion- aires start a very busy schedule. With only a few seconds left Carl Durward pulled a stupid move by hitting the goalie which then broke out into a fight. Three of Port's players were suspended. Durward and Kennedy both got one game and Parker three games. Warren Nicholishen played a good game with Archibald playing a bit of this game.
