Parent Education Programs The Blackstock Nursery School Incorporated is hold- ing the first in a series of 5 Parent Education Programs in recognition of 1979 Inter- national Year of the Child, on Wednesday, February 28, at the Cartwright Public School at 7:30 p.. The topic for this presentation will be '"Work- ing together - Early Child- hood Education, age 3 to grade 3". Preparing your child for elementary school, value of play, and early identification of learning problems, will be discussed. Parents are encouraged to bring their own questions. Guest forming a panel on this evening will be: Jeanne Frolick, the Durham Board of Education. Joyce Fisher, primary consultant with the Durham Board of Education, and Nancy McMillan, a kindergarten teacher. The Theme was '"'Love" and those in charge of the Devotions were Elma Roundell, Ruby Dusty and Sharon Meisner. 15 members answered the Roll Call with a Valentine verse. The Business portion was conducted by President, Elma Roundell. Eunice Rahm, Secretary, read the Minutes and Marie Foster, Treasurer, gave the Trea- surer's Report. It was brought to our attention that Julie Lawrence, a former member is not too well, and it would be nice if some would call her on the phone (she is near the phone between 11 and 12 o'clock noon). . It was agreed that the Greenbank U.CW Prince Catering Committee will be our representatives on the Kitchen Committee. The April group is to take the March' meeting and the March group will take the April meeting. Betty Stone and Jean Hunter agreed to be the Committee in charge of Carpeting the Church vestibule and stairs. A motion was passed that we have a Bazaar table at the Beef Barbeque (if the Board of Stewards have one) in the summer. It was announced that there are a number of copies of the booklet, 'Pioneer Days of Greenbank', for sale. Any one wishing a copy contact Helen McKean or any Institute member. The meeting closed with the Mizpah Benediction. After everyone enjoyed a contest, the Group served a delicious lunch. Blackstock W.I. by Bethany Schryburt The ladies of Blackstock - Women's Institute met in the Community Hall on Wednes- day, February 7th. They enjoyed delicious Desserts and coffee served by Mrs. Samell's group. Mrs. Shortridge apened the meeting welcoming all the ladies and read a poem, '"Attitude'"'. The Institute Ode was sung and the Mary Stewart Collect repeated-in unison. The Roll Call was "Something from the Home and Country." Minutes of the previous meeting and the Treasurer's report were presented. Thank you notes were read for 4-H gifts from Kelly McLaughlin and Karen Duivesteyn. Copies of the Amendments to the Bylaws of Women's Institute Organi- zation were given out to members. A letter was read asking the Institute to support the Hospital Auxi- liary Spring Fair to be held on April 28th. The Officer's ~--Conference is to be held at Waterloo on May 1st to the March meeting a member will decide to go, to the Conference. Visitors Week at the Erland Lee Home will be held on June 4th to 8th; applications should be sent in advance for Bus loads going. Mrs. Hoskin offered to convene a quilting. A vote was taken and it was decided to have lunch before meet- ings rather than after. It was unanimously decided to support a Ban on Topless Waitresses in our Township. Mrs. Shortride spoke a few words on the motto, "Are you a person who makes things happen, Watch things happen or wonder if any- thing is happening." Mrs. Carl Adams showed us a fine film on Upper Canada Village and also conducted a contest, 'Rhyming Rid- dles". The meeting closed with "O Canada'. Yelverton U.C.W. by Harvey Malcolm The February meeting of Yelverton U.C.W. met on Thursday, February 8th at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Howard McMillan in Port Perry. Mrs. Allan Howe presided over the meeting which was opened with the singing of the Ode. The Devotional was convened by Mrs. Bruce Foote as follows - Scripture Luke 13:11-18 with the Topic on "Suffering". The Hymn Rock of Ages was followed by Prayer. Mrs. Foote closed the Devotional with a poem '"The First Valentine". The Roll Call was answer- ed by 14 members with some specific information on the" Eskimo." Various reports were given and $25.00 transferred to the Fruit and Flower Committee. Several thank- you notes were read. Anyone who has old catalogues or cards please forward to Mrs. Art Rowan for future use. Dates were announced as. follows - U.C.W. Executive Meeting at Bobcaygeon on February 12th; The Annual Meeting of U.C.W. Ladies for this area to be held on March 15 at Queen St. United Church, Lindsay. The Garden party to be held in June was discussed and changes proposed to usual format. The Annual Bus Trip to be held on May 23. The Meeting was closed by the Mizpah Benediction. Mrs. Ralph Pfoh gave a very enlightening talk on the Eskimos - the annual life span is only 20 years. They are a very tightly knit group of individualized people, have no superstitious fears and no warlike tendencies. There main aim is merely to survive. A delicious buffet was hosted by Mrs. Howard McMillan and Mrs. Art Rowan. Greenbank 4-H by Suzanne Saulnier Monday night was the first meeting of the Greenbank "Disco Dolls". Mrs. McKean and Debbie Lee are leading our unit - "Acces- sories, The Final Touch". The meeting was opened with the 4-H pledge and the election of the officers: Bev Hill - President, Dawn Meisner - Secretary and Suzanne Saulnier .- Press Reporter. We then discussed the history of accessories lead- iing right back to Adam and Eve. Our group then dis- cussed with others what figure type we were and 3rd. Terry and Eileen Hodgins held a surprise 18th birthday party and dance for their daughter, Heather on Satur- day evening. About 50 friends attended. Then on Sunday, her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Cherrie and her aunt, Dorothy Hood came for her birthday supper. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Martyn entertained neighbours at a party held a week ago at which Rev. Reg. Rose and his wife showed slides of their cruise trip to the Mediterranean countries and the Holy Land. Mr. and Mrs. Chas Andrews entertained Mr. and Mrs. Chas Andrews Sr. and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dayes for Wednesday eve- ning dinner, the occasion being Chas' birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Chas _ Andrews Sr. have left. for a. vacation in Florida. Twenty one hardy people attended the Couples Club 'horse drawn sleigh ride on Friday evening.
