Monday, February 5th the powerful GL Roberts Lakers thoroughly trounced the home team Port Perry Redmen 61-36. The Lakers started quickly as they capitalized on some accurate shooting and an excellent defence to. jump into a 14-6 lead after one quarter. Port Perry's key downfall was their inability to get rebounds and it became evident early in the second quarter. Forward Cam Muir who played perhaps his strongest game of the season finished the game with a team high 15 rebounds. For a brief time in the second period the Redmen seemed to be working their way back into contention as they narrowed the gap to six . points. It did not last though, as Lakers came roaring back in the last three minutes of the half to take a Uxbridge defeats PeeWee 2 by Len Franssen Stone Real Estate were defeated 5-2 by an excellent. team from Uxbridge. Uxbridge jumped into a 2-0 lead by the end of the first period. The second period was all Port Perry out- scoring Uxbridge 2-1 on goals by Ian Dickson, who, unassisted first a great back hand shot past the Uxbridge net minder. Kevin Fowler scored the other with a fine shot from just inside the blue line. Assists going to Fred Cockerton and Jeff Wallace on this goal. In the last , period the local boys let up and Uxbridge scored twice to end the game. Stone's are now down two games in their series with Uxbridge which continues on Sunday February 11th in Uxbridge and back here in Port on Friday, February 16th at 7:30 p.m. The local team has to win these two games to keep their play off series alive. In the final half Roberts decided to rest their starters and let the second and third stringers finish the job. Against the substitutes Port Perry seemed to hold their .own until George Burnett, one of Port Perry's three key players, injured his ankle with two minutes remaining. It was later diagnosed as a PORT PERRY STAR -- Wed., February 14, 1979 -- 19 Two big wins for Juveniles by Carol Wilbur After a slow start in which the Emiel's Place Juveniles tied Uxbridge they have finally got on track and defeated Uxbridge soundly 6-1 and 7-2. On Tuesday, February 6 the Juveniles travelled to Uxbridge for the second game in a best 4 out of seven series. The game 'stayed fairly close until half way through the second period. Port pulled ahead in the second and third period, they scored 4 unanswered goals to defeat Uxbridge 6 to 1. Scoring for Port were Mark Cleveland, and Dave Canning with one goal and one assist, Rob Parker, Mike" Healey, Dennis Franssen, and Rick Young each had one goal. John Robertson, Scott Wilbur, Tim Kane and Rick Hope each had an - assist. Back at home on Thursday February 8 the Juveniles romped to-another 7-2 vic- tory over Uxbridge. Scoring for Port were Steven Geer, Scott Wilbur, and Rick Young each with a goal and an assist. Dave Canning, Tony Oxley, Rick Hope and Dennis Franssen each had a goal. Mark Cleveland, Rob Parker, Mike Hamilton and Tim Kane each had an assist. Merle Schewaga has played stand up goal, in all games. The Juveniles travel to Uxbridge Tuesday, Feb- ruary 13 and host Uxbridge Friday, February 16 at the Scugog Arena. Come and cheer the Juveniles on in their play-offs. for Junior Redmen severe sprain and he will probably be gone for the remainder of the season. Ironically, this contest had marked the return of Curt Pinkowski to the Redmen line up. He had been away since Christmas with an illness. Although he did not _ start, Pinkowski did give a fine effort as he took down six rebounds and scored three points. In the other statistics, Rick Long had five rebounds and six points. Bob Ireland had four rebounds, three assis and ten points. Burnett ha four rebounds and four points. Cam Muir notched five points.
