~~ J BA Bar ri BR ROR SPARTA ERSTE fe A) Pie Co ALA DRA ae PPHS drama students preparing for their * Spring Drama Night It's another active year for Port Perry High's amateur Drama enthusiasts as they swing into preparation for the annual Spring Drama Night, to be held this year in May. - Warm-up activities for the students included Decem- ® ber's sell-out Children's play Star Trip, presented at the annual Child's Christmas in Port Perry and-assisted by the Junior High School Band under the direction of Peter Chellew. The talented Star Trip cast, directed by Diane Lackie, entertained Grade two and three public school children in a fast-paced production which featured 'far-out robots Leon Tapper and Andy Williams, an intergalactic messenger Alfie, better known as Lisa Taylor, the villainous pirate Ed Canning, and the heroic Captain Cosmic, alias Cam Muir. Drama Club and Theatre Arts students, as well as others, then finished up December with their annual entertaining Christmas Assemblies, aided by some agreeable teachers who staged an unruly classroom scene, and the band under the direction of Mr. Baird. In rehearsal now for the New Year are Chekhov's play The Boor, directed by . David Sims, and a challeng- ing modern play Black Comedy, directed by John Crocker. The Raft, by Stephen Leacock, a seldom- performed comic curtain- raiser, and Leon Tapper, in original mime, under Mrs. Lackie's direction, will round out the busy evening. Ashburn news by Mrs. E. Heron The first Sunday of Epiphany was observed at Burns Church last Sunday morning, when Rev. McEntyre had a good message for the new year 8 entitled "Growing New in Christ".
