Ed is now living at home with his father which makes a better situation for Jim. On Friday little Tonya Ballard of Gerrow's Beach was given a birthday party by her mother to celebrate her 5th birthday. The eight small children spent a very happy afternoon with games, gifts, etc.. But the gift that 'gave Tonya the greatest impression was the arrival of a baby sister in the early evening. Congratulations to the parents, Gail and Ralph. Following the serious highway accident involving the Sweetman family, we try to keep in touch to report on the progress of recovery. By Monday of this week John Sweetman and Jack Kane are in the Port Perry hospi- tal. Jack had been home but had to return after a fall. John was moved from Oshawa by ambulance. He still has a hinged cast which allows for some movement. Other broken bones are heal- ing on their own. On Sunday he was able to be moved by wheel chair into Jack's room for a visit. Now, they are surrounded by many friends and family which makes their situation more en- couraging and bearable. Kathy is at home gradually recovering from shock and injuries. By Christmas, they should have many blessings to celebrate. Some years ago, Mrs. Bertha Valentine, the sister of Mrs. John (Lucy) Aldred lived across from the present John Sweetman home. Twenty four years ago she went to Winnipeg to live with her daughter and son-in-law. During \this time she never lost interest in the Island and expressed a desire to donate two new hymn books to the Island Church. In May she went to hospital and even- tually had to have both legs removed. In November she passed away and her body was interred at Prince Albert. At this time her daughter gave the hymn books which are greatly appreciated. At this time also, Mr. and Mrs. John Sweetman donated hymn books in memory of their parents. We remember how much interest John showed in music and for several years in the choir. His mother's talents too, will: long be remembered. Mrs. Reta Rodman re- membered we are building a music fund for a new piano and added her donations. We are very grateful for the many donations received during the past two years. Perhaps, we can feel that we have now an adequate supply of hymn books for the present or until the congre- gation increases. If you would still like to present memorials, or donations please phone Bonnie Gerrow and you will be given a choice of where you would like to place it.
