It was announced a Bake Sale will be held in the Municipal Hall on Saturday, October 14th from 2to 4 p.m." also tea and cookies will be available and an admission will be taken. This is in connection with the Tweeds- muir History program. Everyone is welcome to come and view the historical books which will be on dis- play during the afternoon. Mrs. Grace Bassant report- ed on visits to Mrs. Edith Brunton who is seriously ill in hospital. Several mem- bers have also visited our sick member with gifts, etc. from the Women's Institute. Meeting was then turned over to the Tweedsmuir His- tory Program Convenor Mrs. Margaret Cornish and her committee. The motto - - "If vit is not recorded, it might 'be forgotten', was' very well taken by Mrs. May Raines. If History records are not kept over the years we may never learn about our country and people. How and where the lands were settled. Unless records of dates, places, people and the exploring are kept, we could lose our identity and early history. Mrs. Raines spoke of her own personal memories of Port Perry, which took us back before cement side- walks and roadways and board sidewalks and dirt and gravel roads which was mud in the spring and fall. Mrs. Raines skipped over a few years and spoke of the two World War also an historical year for Honeydale which was organized in May 1935. Unfortunately the records for the first year were lost, and now they rely on the memories of the charter members for early infor- mation. In some ways this is to the fact which keeps us alert. "If it is not recorded, it could be forgotten". Mrs. Cornish introduced the guest visitor Mrs. Dell Bently. A very delightful speaker. She told us a great many happenings of her early years growing up in Port Perry. Mrs. Bently was given a very hearty vote of thanks by all. Mrs. Cornish and her committee served delicious refreshments. 0252525252525252525252525d5¢5d5d5¢ -~ * - - : EC OO CE CC CS CC CSC IC SC IC IC SCC IC SC SC IE IC ICSC SC IC ICRC IC IC ICSC 026262525052 52525052 50525252 5¢5¢ A PORT PERRY STAR -- Wed., October 18, 1978 -- 15 A : Bi / . 5.7 AL aa B, Fl |g A vB ie a - -- Eg lL A re . ha - Lg dA RR a iy Ea a.
