The ceremony took place in St. James United Church, Peterborough with the reception and dance in the Rock Haven. Music for the dance was supplied by Doug's brother's group Rick Johnson and the Coun- try Boys. On returning from their honeymoon trip to U.S.A. and St. Catherines they will reside in Oshawa. The former Dawn McCabe is the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley McCabe of Lotus and has been em- ployed in Peterborough and now transferred to Oshawa. The family of Mr. and Mrs. Howard McMullen of Port Perry formerly of Yelverton - Lotus community honoured their parents with a Turkey dinner at Yelverton Church Hall on Saturday evening September 30th. Over 150 invited guests shared the happy occasion with. Mable and Howard. Among those present were Mable's brides- maid Mrs. Grace Reynolds of Stratford, Mrs. Jean Bun- yun of Midland, the Soloist - Mrs. Lorna (McGill) Han- cock of Ottawa. Mr. Wilson Heaslip of Lindsay was Howard's best man on the occasion fifty years ago September 29, 1928. Two ministers took part in that ceremony - Rev. Griffith of Nestleton United and Rev. R.M. Patterson of Janetville United. Present on the anni- versary was Mrs. Ella Patterson of Lindsay - one of the most venerable of the guests - widow of the late Rev. Patterson. Following the dinner the guests attended a dance and social evening in Nestleton Community Hall with Ross Jackman, Bow- manville providing very good music to suit the taste of the age group present. Howard and Mable re- ceived numerous gifts on the occasion including a trip to the Barbados from their children - Beth and Marion and their husbands and Mable's sister Jean and hus- band. Art Rowan read a humorous poetic address of his own composition cover- ing the hi-lights of the hon- oured couples first 50 years of married life. Guests were present from all local communites and adjacent towns as well as from a distance - from Strat- ford, Bowmanville, Michi- gan, U.S. A.,, Midland and Ottawa. It will take place throughout Ontario on Monday, November 13, 1978. ~- . -- Yelverton and area news attended the wedding of- end of the season Banquet and Presentation of the Lake Scugog Softball Association was held in the church hall of the Catholic Immaculate Conception Church in Port Perry with around 200 present. Following a sump- tuous hot roast beef dinner, President Bob Ryan thanked the church ladies and pro- ceeded to make the presen- tations. Then Gary Allison Memorial Trophy was pre- sented to the runner-ups in the play-off and top team during the year - the Ponty- pool team and was accepted by their coach Mr. Keith Dewar. The Charles McCullough Memorial Trophy was pre- sented to the Port Perry Canadian Tire team and accepted by their coach Doug Scott. Doug expressed the teams appreciation for the trophy noting this was the first time since 5 years ago that Port Perry had won the trophy and assisted Bob in presenting the individual trophies to all the team members. The most valu- able player during the League play-offs Trophy was presented to Mr. Jeff Boyce - Port Perry's most effective pitcher. ~ Harvey Malcolm Secre- tary-Treasurer of the League, on behalf of all the players present, expressed the appreciation of all to President Bob Ryan for the fine job he had done for the League and for his arranging the evenings entertainment. The balance of the evening was passed in dancing to disco music supplied by a D.J. The eight teams which make up the Lake Scugog League 1978 include Port Perry, " Pontypool, Yelver- ton, Scugog, Bell (Oshawa), Kedron, Nestleton and Janetville. Last Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Clare Robinson and daughter were Laurie's brother and family - Mr. and Mrs. "Butch" Hofstetter of - Plattsville. Miss Lana Malcolm has been quite busy since win- ning the Talent contest at Lindsay Fair. On Friday evening Lana and her dad Murray participated in a group at Marmora; On remember when ...? continued Mr. Earl Martyn and daughter Marion visited relatives in British Columbia. Mr. Alvin Heayn, Scugog brought in a green pep- per measuring 13% X 14%' in circumference. Percy and Ernie Swain and Lloyd Wright of Blackstock left for Winnipeg to help with the har- vesting. ' 25 YEARS AGO Thursday, October 8th, 1953 W.F. Batty, Brooklin was the leading exhibitor in the heavy horse class at the Lindsay Exhibition. At the Port Perry High School Track and Field Meet, Gary Lawrence was the Sr. Boys Champion with 31 points. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Fear, Prince Albert, celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Orr Venning's home was struck by lightening disabling their radio and telephone. 20 YEARS AGO Thursday, October 7th, 1958 Over 200 ladies attended the Millinery and Fashion Show at the United Church sponsored by Mrs. Jessie Robertson and her group of W.A. members. Police Chief Archie Menzies addressed the Port Perry Lions Club on safety. Port Perry council agree to provide a crosswalk guard at the public school. B Mr. and Mrs. Walter Rogers, Epsom, celebrated their 40th Wedding Anniversary. 10 YEARS AGO Thursday, October 10, 1968 On Thursday, October 10, Mr. William F.E. Ar- mstrong of Port Perry celebrated his 90th birthday. Lynda J. Kyte, Blackstock, was one of nearly 100 students to complete their studies during the summer semester at the University of Guelph and receive a bachelor degree. Miss Kyte received her bachelor of arts in psychology at the convention. Archer Motors Limited recently changed owner- ship when Bob Archer handed over the keys to the new owner, John Majcher from Whitby. Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Masters were recently honoured at a reception at Myrtle United Church on the occasion of their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Ten youngsters from Manchester staged a walk-a- thon from Manchester to Chalk Lake return.
