After being off for two weeks the boys came up flat on the bats and suffered a 10 to 1 defeat. Hitting for Port were Wilbur with 1 RBI and one single; Jeffery, Johnson, Fewer, Franssen each with 2 singles and Dickson with 1 single. Pitchers were Phil Robinson and Mark Jeffery. The next two games of this series go Monday, August 28 and Tuesday, August 29 (too late for publication). In the Bethany series the heavy hitters were T. Wilbur with 4 RBI's, 2 triples, 2 doubles, 3 singles; B. Dick- son with 2 RBI's, 1 triple and C. Lovering with 2 RBI's, 2 doubles and 3 singles; R. Local youngsters winchampionship by Danny Millar For the second consecu- tive year the Port Perry Baptist Church's youth group won the Softball Championship of the district churches. In the final game, origin- ally scheduled for August 15th but rain delayed one week to the 22nd, Port Perry defeated the Fenelon Falls Baptists 7 to 3. The game was held at OPS Public School in Lindsay, the ap- proximate midway point for each team. Results of the game Thurs- day was 2 to 0 for Uxbridge. Well congratulations, Port Maroons on winning the league. Epsom Boys beat the Utica General Store Bluebirds 7 to 0 last Monday in their semi- final game. So Epsom and Uxbridge will battle it out for the cup. Mosquito: Stedmans Red Devils will play Uxbridge Dominion Auto for the cup. Atom: On Wednesday the Port Cleaner Phantoms played their semi-final game against Port Perry Golden Eagles and what a game it was. Both teams were flying high and out to win. The eagles had several chances . at shots on goal, but with the Phantoms strong defence and great anticipation from their goal keeper Bradley Puckrin they held the Eagles out. Score at the end of the game was 0 to 0. The game went into two five minute end overtimes. During the first five minutes Eagle Andy Systma scored a goal on a beautiful high shot, the only way to get it 'past Bradley. Then in the second five minutes of play right winger Eagle Scott West just took off with the ball from centre field, carrying it down the wing, then cutting across behind the defence. Claremont went home the victor as they downed Port's Midgets 14 to 3. Claremont's pitching won the game with 20 strike-outs. This game then went into 2 five minute end over- times but there was no score. Both teams had 5 shots on goal. Uxbridge scored 2 and Port Orange Bombers scored 3 giving them a well earned win. The score was 2 to 0 in Port's favour until the bottom of the eighth when 3 Claremont runs were brought in. Port couldn't catch up. Final score was 3 to 2 for Claremont. Double winners Continued Diane and Doris had to over- come the stiff challenge from the team of Virginia Burt and Suzie Bigglestone their daughters. That match needed a tie breaker game to settle the outcome. The Mary-Jean Elliott - Winnie Tobin duo outclassed Bonnie Solomon and Brenda Bowmans as they won the Womens Consolation 6-1,6-0. Bowmans and Solomon were defeated in a half an hour. Scugog Softball final The results of the Lake Scugog Softball Association Play-off is as follows: In the first round Nestleton at Pontypool, Pontypool won 5 to 2:-Pontypool at Nestle- ton, Pontypool won 1 to 0; Pontypool takes series 2 to 0. In the second round Port at Bell Canada, Port won 9 to 0, Bell Canada at Port Perry, Port Perry wins the series 2 to 0. In the third round Scugog Island at Yelverton, Yelver- ton wins 10 to 0, Yelverton at Scugog Island, Yelverton wins 11 to 1; Yelverton wins the series 2 to 0. In the semi-finals Ponty- pool receives bye this round. Yelverton at Port Perry, Yelverton wins 8 to 4; Port Perry at Yelverton, Port Perry wins 1 to 0. Best of three series tied at 1 to 1.
