Mrs. Marion Hughes, Mrs. Reta Wilson and Jim Wilson were all in hospital last week. Jim was able to return home on Friday but Reta is still not well in Port Hospital. Marion, who is in Oshawa Hospital is much better. We hear Mrs. South- gate has also been quite sick for a couple of weeks. We trust all these people will soon be able to enjoy life again. We extend sympathy to Mrs. Orval a Noe family in the recent passing of her father, Mr. Sam Arnold. A week ago we were all shocked to hear of the acci- dental death of Mr: Bill Smith of Gerrow's Beach. We remember how generous the Smiths were a few years ago in sharing their lovely home and grounds for our Strawberry suppers and U.C.W. meetings. We extend sympathy to Roy Collins and the rest of the Collins family in the recent passing of Roy's sis- ter, Joan, who spent her childhood on Scugog Island. On May 29 the Beavers and their leaders had a tour of the Oshawa Police Station. On the evening of June 12 they finished their last meet- ing of the season with a weiner roast. On June 6, four cubs moved up to scouts and were invested. They enjoyed a joint meeting with the Scouts. On June 13, the scouts had their final meet- ing. June 10, the remaining cubs had a bus trip to Toron- to to visit the museum and Planetarium. Next Saturday June 17 will be a busy day on the Island with the Community Picnic at the Provincial Park, the auction sale at the home of the late Len Hance and the wedding of Anna Forder at the home of her parents. Let's hope for good weather for all these functions. On Wednesday evening 26 ladies of the '"Head" and "Grace" U.C.W. met at the Island Church for a joint, study of the Caribbean Cres- cent and time of fellowship. Several members of both groups took parts in the Devotion and study of the crescent in general, three of the Islands, European in- fluence, relationship with Canada and the place of the Church. It was very 'nice to see Betty Reader and Hennie Jackson back in their places again. Mrs. Robert Brown gave a very interesting message by relating many of her person- al experiences and how she had found an answer to her problems, and the blessings she had received. As we all ponder on her statements, we can feel encouraged and ready to pass our worries over to God for help.
