ON BR Te) EE Parade, hand, games * during Booster Night The week of June 19th to the 24th has been declared Minor Softball Week in Port Perry by the local Council. Throughout the Province many group and organiza- tions wil! be holding tourna- ments and games. The Port Perry Minor Softball Asso- ciation is no acception as they will again be holding their annual Booster Night on Saturday June 24th. The night will begin with a Par- ade of all the teams in the area and whl! be lead by the Oshawa Rebels, a Drum and ® Bugle band and Grand Par- ade Marshall "Bill Johnson" of CHOO Radio. Several House league teams will play abbreviated games and many draws for prizes will be held. For more details see the Star ad in todays paper. House-League Softball Squirt House League was scheduled to open last Wed- nesday but rain postponed the games so the boys will try again this week. Pee Wee House-leagues Scugog Realty defeated Pleasant Point 26 to 18 at the Legion Diamond on Tuesday night with both John Popo- wich and Bill Dowson pitch- ing well for the Scugog team. Greenbank Dodgers troun- ced Scugog Realty 22 to 14 on Thursday night with Roddy Real having three home runs for the winners. Midgets defeat Udora lose to Uxbridge by Deb Ireland On Monday, June 5, Port Perry's- Ballard Lumber Midgets challenged Udora in their first "away game' of the season. Port came out on top of a tight 4 to 3 score. The boys came out strong in the first inning under the direction of their new coach, Mr. Robert Knapp. Dennis Franssen hit a home run which brought in two of the three runs that inning. The score remained 3 to 0 until the eighth where it quickly changed to 4 to 3. Strong infield and outfield plays held the competition. Mike Doupe had an excellent game behind the plate. However, on Thursday night, the Lumbermen suf- fered a loss of 4 to 3 to Uxbridge. The teams were evenly matched but Port had a few errors in the play. Dave Dickson, Mark Cleve- land, and Dennis Franssen shared the duty of pitching. The next home game is against Udora at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 15 in Joe Fowler Memorial Ball Park. Reta Bow proposed the toast to Maybelle Lodge which was responded to, by Noble Grand Marion Web- ster, a toast by Reg. Foster to the Grand Lodge of Ont- ario was answered by Glenn Wanamaker, and the toast to the Rebekah Assembly of Ontario was replied to by Vice President Helen Spicer.
