Sponsored by the Port Perry High School, this marks the 5th summer in a row that the Mobile School has used Lake Scugog to introduce enthusiasts to the sport of sailing. Instructor Cam Howey told the Star last week that he and his three collegues are all qualified to teach under the regulations of the Ontario Sailing Association, and between them they have several years' experience. The object of the five-day course is to teach all aspects of basic sailing techniques, as well as boating and water safety. One important facet is what to do if the sail-boat should happen to capcize, and on the second day of instruction the students went through this exercise and got good and wet in the process. At the end of the five days all those taking the course are judged and tested on what they have learned. Port Perry was the first stop for the Mobile School this summer, and the in- structors will be conducting schools and clinics in several other communities across the province. The objective of the OSA-is to promote the sport, and courses and programs are offered to sailgrs at all levels from racing through to novice. oss Sh rks AE Con vs NED
