Ln 'Councit Briers FIRES BURNING Council will ask the OPP to carry out periodic patrols of the Regional waste disposal station east of Blackstock, which has been the site of several fires apparently set on purpose. Caesarea Fire Chief Len Scott brought the matter to council's attention in a letter saying the department has been called out several times in the past six months to put out fires in the garbage disposal bins. Young people have apparently been seen the vicinity of the disposal area, which is open 24 hours a day. SNOWMOBILE CLUB = Port Perry Snowmobile Club president Bill Harper has been asked at appear before the next ¢ meeting of council to provide more information about a public building the club is proposing to construct near the Summer Lea Golf Course. In a letter to council, Mr. Harper asks for endorsement of the fact the facility will be available to the Township Recreation committee and the general public, which would assist the club in obtaining a grant from the provincial government. The building, complete with washrooms and ® Kitchen, would be large enough for 80 people to hold special events, and would include an outside picnic area. k } DEBT PAID OFF Council Monday night authorized the trans- fer of $27,000 from the Township development fee fund to retire the outstanding debt for the new Scugog Arena. This leaves some $60,000 remaining in the development fee fund, and means the Township debt for the new arena has been wiped out. LUNCHEON Council approved a motion calling on the Township to provide a luncheon for a delegation of Swiss industrialists who are coming to Durham Region later this month to look at industrial sites. - : The Swiss delegation is one of three from Europe expected in Durham in the near future as a result of the recent trip to Europe by officials from the Region in an effort to attract new industry into the Region. they are expected to look at industrial sites in Scugog Township. PRINCE ALBERT HALL The cost of renovations to the Prince Albert Community Centre has run over original estim- ates because of flooding in the basement, and council approved a new funding scheme to cover the costs. A community centres grant from the prov- ince for $1250 will be applied for, plus an additional $1000 will come from the Township parks reserve account, and $2750 will be made up in volunteer labour and from the Township general levy. firm Work on the renovations has been almost completed, and it was originally thought that money budgeted to the Centre last year, but not spent, could be spent this year. The $5000 now needed for the renovations is $3000 more than the amount allocated last year. Council three weeks ago wanted nothing to do with this kind of an arrangement, believing that the Township would have to pick up the full tab, while the Board of Education would not be contributing anything. That is not the case, said - Mrs. Christie. Any mainten- ance costs this summer would be shared, and restor- ation costs at the end of the summer would also be shared. Mr. Monroe told council Land grant A $31,625 provincial grant has been awarded to the Central Lake Ontario Con- servation Authority to assist in the purchase of 29 addit- ional acres for the 134-acre Enniskillen Conservation Area, one-half mile east of the hamlet of Enniskillen, east on Taunton Road from Oshawa. Total estimated cost of the land purchase project is $57,500. that the Board policy is to cut the grass on all school playing fields during the summer months on a period- ical basis, and that the added cost of cutting the grass short enough for regular soccer play would be the municipality's respon- sibility. He also suggested that an inspection of the field be carried out now so that an assessment of its condition could be made at the end of the summer season to deter- FAMILY TRUST CORPORATION family hb Trust Guaranteed Investments 94% FORS5 YEARS 2% IF INTEREST IS PAID ANNUALLY Interest payable half yearly or may be left to compound. mine the municipality's share of restoration costs as a result of a summer of non- school activities. He added that young soccer players are not going to do much damage to a field with their regular league games. The interim arrangement for sharing of summer main- tenance costs between the Board and the Township will be re-negotiated later this fall to include the municip- ality's share of the restorat- ion costs.
