Building superintendents Dennis and Cheryl Romeril on the front steps of the new 60 suite Carlan apartments'in Port Perry which opened June 1. First tenants move into apartments Port Perry's first multi- unit apartment building opened its doors June 1, and by the middle of last week more than twenty tenants had already moved in. The L-shaped, three story complex with sixty suites is located at the corner of Bigelow Street, Regional Road 8 and Lilla Street. Superintendent Dennis Romeril, who lives im the building, said last week that more than forty of the sixty suites have been rented. While most of the tenants are from Port Perry, the build- ing is attracting some from Uxbridge and Oshawa. Many of the two-bedroom suites have been rented by retired people who spend at least part of the winter in the sunny south and don't want the worry and headaches of having to leave a house vacant during this period. Although workmen were still busy last week putting final touches to interior decorating, the paving of the parking area has been com- pleted, and the grounds are attractively landscaped by a professional with shrubs, trees, flower gardens and sod. Mr. Romeril said the open- ing has gone smoothly, but he did admit the first week- end was "a bit hectic," what TERMINATION SALE Store Wide Discounts on ® Hardware ® Paint ® Building Supplies June 12 - 23, 1978 CROXALL & SON LTD. 93 Winchester Road Brooklin, Ont. | HOURS: 7:00 am. to 6:00 p.m. Terms Cash All Sales Final with the first twenty tenants moving in furniture and be- longings, and trying to get themselves settled. Review Continued from unanimous. During the debate on the motion put forward by Osh awa councillor John DeHart, chairman Beath's attitude towards the request was lukewarm, as he favoured an internal study before the province becomes involved. After receipt of the Mec- Keough letter last Friday, Mr. Beath indicated he was pleased by the decision by the province, and noted that the Region is currently un- dertaking a department by department study by Dur- ham staff members. Councillor DeHart said he will raise the issue when the full council meets for a regu- lar meeting June 14.
