Mr. and Mrs. John Farrow of South River were last weekend visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Rick Larocque and sons. George Kilpatrick visited Mr. Everard Joll at New- castle last Monday. Mrs. Debbie Beacock of New Leaskard is spending a week with Mr. and Mrs. Victor Larocque. Mr. and Mrs. Vince Laroc- que of Oshawa were Satur- day visitors at the Vie Laroc- que home. News and views from Epsom by Jean Jeffery Miss Margaret Taylor of Black Creek Village was home during the week. Ray, Ruth and John Taylor and friends were with their parents, Mr. and Mrs Earl Taylor for the weekend. Linda and Lori Bushell and Merlin Lenny visited Mr. and Mrs. Howard Ashton one afternoon last week. Mrs. FF. Evans, Mrs. H. Elford, Mrs. Earl Wilson and their mother, Mrs. W.0. Sim- pson visited Mrs. May Sweet at a nursing home in Oshawa. Mrs. Sweet is celebrating her 96th birthday in May. The Young Peoples Sun- day School enjoyed a bow- ling night. Mrs. Allen Chow, Mr. and Mrs. Ken Cather- wood arranged this treat. After bowling they enjoyed lunch and a social hour at the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. Ashton. April 30th 1st Scugog troop Beavers, Cubs and Scouts will have a Church Parade at Epsom at 11:30 a.m. I am sure Rev. C. Pendlebury will have a worth while message for everyone. Saturday, May 13 .at Trinity Hall, Uxbridge there - will be a play "Blythe Spirit" by Noel Coward. I believe there is a reduced price for groups of ten. You might contact Mrs. Asling 852-6607. T.A.G. group will appreciate this co-operation. May 9 the Barbershop ' Chapter invite you to a family night at Uxbridge Music Hall. There will be lucky prizes, a fun auction and loads of Barbershop harmony all for the benefit of the arena. Hope to see you . there. Pine Grove ladies have invited our U.C.W. to a meet- ing at their church on June 7 at 2 p.m. This is one of their Centennial projects. Their guest speaker will be Mrs. Lehman on Life in Isreal to-day. May 2 the Epsom Utica U.C.W. will have a business meeting at Utica at 8 p.m. sharp. The Epsom-Utica U. C.W. will be having a pot luck dinner on May 7 at 6:30 p.m. Everyone welcome. -- Mr. Rollond will be showing slides of Australia and tell- ing us about his homeland. There will be other pro- gramme. A most enjoyable evening I am sure. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Jeffery accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Thornton of Port Perry to Norwood to attend the funeral of their nephew Dan Cawker only son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold (Steve) Cawker of Peter- borough. Mr. and Mrs. 'A. Watson visited Mr. and Mrs. Ron Watson, Scarborough on his birthday on Tuesday. Murray and Cathy Potter and sons Chris and Jeff were in Toronto for the weekend. "They had dinner with friends they met on their recent trip "to Cuba. Mrs. Sneyd and Karen and Moni Armanios visited at the Potter home during the weekend. Dr. Pat Asling and Ivan, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Ashton and children were supper guests on Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Asling. Mrs. Howard Ashton and Mrs. Donald Asling attended a noon lunch at the Salvation Army to hear the speaker Ms. Lee Bryant who spoke of Drug and Alcohol abuse. Mr. Howard Gourlie was with Mr. and Mrs. Jim Gourlie and family for the weekend and on Sunday their was a family dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. Armstrong to celebrate Mr. Gourlie"s 80th birthday. Congratulations and best , wishes from all of us. Mr. and Mrs. H. Gourlie of Oshawa were guests of Mr. and Mrs, R. Armstrong on Sunday. If you operate a business or farm and create new jobs between May 1 and October 21, 1978, the Ontario Youth Employment Program will give you a grant of $1.25 per hour (up toa maximum of $50.00 a week) towards the wages of each eligible youth you hire for those jobs. Employers; Anyone who has carried on a business or operated a farm in Ontario for at least one year prior to May I may receive grants for up to 6 new positions per business location for eligible youth employees. Employees; Employees must be at least 15 but not 25 years old on May 1, 1978. Employees cannot be directly related to the employer. Employees must reside and be eligible to work in Ontario. Duration; The program is in effect for 25 weeks from May 1 through October 21, 1978. An employer is not required to hire a youth for the full 25-week period. Terms of Employment; To be eligible for funding, a position created must be in addition to regular and seasonal employment normally provided during the program period. It must provide a minimum of 25 hours of supervised work per week for at least six weeks. Grant; Approved employers will receive a grant of $1.25 per hour up to a maximum of $50.00 a week (40 hours employment) for each youth hired under the program. NOTE; Grant funds are limited. If you wish to hire a youth any time during the program's duration, please submit your application as soon as possible. In order to hire under the program you must first receive approval from the Ministry of Treasury. Applications for participation cannot be considered after September 4, 1978.
