Miss birthday. I hope all our younger set enjoy their holidays. Of course, wish the parents good luck also. Last Sunday was Com- munion Sunday in our church; Keith and Neil assisted our minister. Thanks to Mrs. Boe for her help. Please remember there will be a combined service next Sunday. The nursery will be closed next Sunday also. Choir practice will be Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. Please come out and help our choir. . Many thanks to our choir for last Sunday, Greenbank Ladies Auxi- liary will be holding a Spring Fashion Presenta- tion and cold buffet on April 26 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Church in Port Perry. Kelly Lee received an award last Saturday which was for the most sports- man-like and dedicated played in the Junior C league. The award is voted on by all the players in the league. On Friday, Jackie Boyle Kelly Boyle attended Miss Ashley Thake's 7th birthday party on Saturday in Toronto. ._On _ Sunday, Mrs. Boe entertained Mr. and Mrs. Ted Suddard and Mrs. Faye Dowson for supper. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Wana- maker had Bill, Sharon and Sara and Ron, Leona and 4-H Clubs Achievement Days soon Spring is here at last, and along with it comes Achiev- ement days for the 4-H Homemaking Clubs. After a long, cold winter, would you be interested in some fresh ideas, exciting colour schemes and new inspira- tions? The 4-H members have been very busy the past months with their latest project, "Focus on Living". They have learned to quilt, crochet and knit. The arti- cles they have made will be on display at their Achieve- ment Days. You will cer- tainly be motivated when you see the fantastic array of colourful craft articles the girls have made. A warm invitation is ex- tended to everyone in the Community to attend the afternodn Achievement Day program beginning at 1:15 p.m. You will be entertain- ed with interesting exhibits, skits and demonstrations. Guay Ministre The Farm Scene - 4--H AGRICULTURAL CLUBS : _ During the month of March, the 4-H Agricultural Clubs in Ontario County will be reorganized for the * 'coming.geason. For the benefit of new members, 4-H comes from the first letter of the words: Head, Heart, Hands and Health. These words symbolize mental, emotional, social and physical growth. : The 4-H program is for rural boys and girls between the ages of 12 and 19 years of age as of January 1st, 1978. Project areas which are available, include dairy calf, beef calf, goat, veterinary science, tractor, and field crops. Other clubs may be formed if there is sufficient interest. This year all registration will be completed by mail. Please contact the Ontario Ministry of Agricul- ture and Food, Box 309, Uxbridge, for registration forms, before March 24th, 1978. ) The first club meeting will take place in early April, and only if a registration form is received, will you be on the mailing list for your club. Project Areas - Dairy - project includes selecting and raising a dairy heifer, keeping records, and preparing and showing the calf at a local achievement day. Age: Junior Heifer - born between Jan. 1, 1978 and Apr. 30,1978. Senior Heifer - born between July 1, 1977 and Dec. 31, 1977. Clubs and Leaders: South Ontario 4-H Dairy Club - Tom Briscoe; Uxbridge 4-H Dairy Club - Lloyd Wilson and Doug Wilson; Port Perry 4-H Dairy Club - Keith Phoenix and John Leask; Sunderland 4-H Dairy Club - Ted Smith, Ron Thomson and Paul Hadden; North Ontario 4-H Dairy Club - Maurice Jebson and William Yates; Senior 4-H Dairy Management Club - Robert Flett. Please Note - All calves over.6 months of age on fair day, except for official vaccinates, and calves from free listed herds, must be negative to a blood test for brucellosis. The calves will be checked by the respective fair boards. Arranging for and paying any veterinary fees associated with the blood test is the responsibility of the 4-H member. ne Senior 4-H Dairy Management Club - Age - 17 to 19 years of age as of January 1st, 1978. Member must belong to a local 4-H calf club, and show a 4-H calf at their local achievement day. March 24th will be the ~ absolute deadline for members to join this club. Uxbridge 4-H Goat Club - Project - raise a kid or milking doe, and keeping their records. Members will also show their animal at the local achieve- ment day. Leaders - Mrs. D. VanVught and Mrs. L. Harrison = 4-H Beef Clubs - Project - same as for dairy club except using a beef animal and showing at a local achievement day. Age: Junior Heifer - Jan. 1, 1978 to Apr. 30, 1978; Senior Heifer --July 1, 1977 to Dec. 31, 1977; Steer - no age limit. : Senior members are eligible to compete in a senior beef competition sponsored by United Breeders if you have a heifer calf project, or you may have a steer weighed on test to be shown in the Queen's Guineas Competition at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. Clubs and Leaders: South Ontario 4-H Beef - Bruce Gibson; North Ontario 4-H Beef - New leader to be selected. Brucellosis Test - same as for dairy heifer calves. Steers are exempt. Ontario County 4-H Tractor Club - Project - keeping tractor maintenance records; Farm machin- ery safety; Participate in tractor rodeo or safety check; Visiting farm machinery dealerships. Leaders - Bruce Walker and Paul Harder. : Ontario County 4-H Field Crops Club - 1. Growing crops of either grain, barley, potatoes or corn. 2. Keeping records on costs and returns. 3. Exhibiting crop sample at achievement day. Leader - Ken Graham. ' 4-H members are responsible for obtaining their own grain and potato seed. A small amount of corn 'seed may be donated by a dealer. 'Veterinary Science Clubs and Leaders: North Ontario 4-H Vet ce - Dr. G Colley; South Ontario 4-H Vet Science Club - Dr. Bob McCray and Dr. Keith Elliott. Various topics relating to animal health are discussed. 4-H members are expected to travel with a Veterinarian at least once, and submit a report as part of the club. Veterinary Science members must be between 14 and 19 years of age as of January 1st, 1978.
