Broncos drop close series to Uxbridge by Scott Heard On Monday, Feb. 20, the 'Midget 2 Broncos played their fifth game of an 8 point series against Uxbridge in Uxbridge. The Broncos went into the game 2 points down and came out 4 points down as they were beaten in another close game 4-3. After this loss all Uxbridge needed was one point to end the series. Port jumped into an early 2 goal lead with Greg Kroon- enburg netting the first one and linemates Tim Bower and Tony Oxley getting the assists. Then 1:27 later that same line connected again "when Tony found an opening and Greg Kroonenburg pick- ed up the assist. Uxbridge made it 2-1 at the end of the first period and the score remained at that until 6:03 into the third frame when Uxbridge tied it up. Then Bryan Myers put the Broncos ahead just 12 seconds later. : But once again Uxbridge came back with a pair to end the game 4-3. The next game was played at home on Thursday before the Juvenile game and it was a do or die situation for the Broncoes as Uxbridge need- AUT EO D. Port Perry had other things in mind though and came through with a 54 win to stay alive. This time Uxbridge jump- - ed into a 2 goal lead before - Scott Heard got Port on the scoreboard in the second period unassisted. Then Brian Barr's first goal with the Broncos, which was assisted by Tony Ox)::y, tied the game. Howevcr, this . didn't last long as Uxbridge made the score 3-2 after the second period. Port then took the lead with Hal Storry scoring unassisted and Scott Heard picking up his second of the night from Dave Myers. With 4:01 left in the game Uxbridge tied once again but Brian Barr, also his second goal, gave Port the victory on a pass from Tony Oxley. This set the stage for the seventh game which was played in Uxbridge, Sunday, afternoon. Once again it was a must game for Port and it ended up going into over- time. But Uxbridge came back and forced the game into overtime with a goal at 9:04 while Port Perry was short- handed. This was a bad game for Port who were not playing up to par Todd Wilbur scored at 11:36 of the first period on a pass from Brian Mikkleson. Lakefield scored answered goals before Doug Potts scored at 5:07 of the second period on a pass from Pat Johnson. Lake- field scored late in the second period. Port could not come back in the third. Final score Lakefield 3, Port 2, therefore Port lost the home game advantage. Port travelled to Lake- field on Sunday, Feb. 26. Port knowing they had to win came out flying. Port scored first in the pvertime, Todd Blayone unassisted. Lakefield scor- ed with 2:00 to go in the overtime period. With just 16 seconds to go Todd Wilbur scored on a pass from Doug Potts. The over- time period ended and Port was out on top 4-3. Rob Franssen was steady in the nets as was Clay Lovering in the first game.
