On Jan. 5 Pickering went down 3-1. Port Perry was first on the scoreboard at 3:28 of the first period on a goal from Ron Rumford, assisted by Joe Williams and Todd Healey. Picker- ing tied the game at 6:47, then with 36 seconds re- maining in the first period, Roger Gould found the mark from Grant Vizely and Kevin Long. Following a scoreless second period, Sean Fewer put the game on ice with a blistering slap shot from Scott Wallace and Joe Williams, at 13:09. Final score 3-1. On Jan. 7, Port Perry travelled to Bowmanville and left town 5-4 winners. Bowmanville opened the scoring at 6:31 of the first period. Port tied the game at 8:30 when Joe Williams found the mark from Dennis Gatchell and Todd Healey. Bowmanville - went ahead early in the second period at the 16 second point. Then Joe Williams tied the game at 2:24 from Todd Healey and Ron Rumford. Bow- manville scored twice more in the second, going into the third period with a 4-2 lead. Port Perry came back in the third, with Sean Fewer getting a hat trick. His first came at 7:28 from Roger Gould. Then, at 10:45, he blasted another from just inside the blue line, with Joe Williams getting the assist. With 2:22 remaining Fewer found the mark a third time, with Ron Rum, ford assisting. Final score 5-4 for Port Perry. On Jan. 11, CTC travelled to Pickering Village and earned their first shutout of the season, defeating Pick- ering 5-0. Port Perry scor- ed once in the first period, Todd Healey finding the mark at 3:50 from Sean Fewer and Ron Rumford: Kevin Long scored at 7:22 of the second from Roger Gould and Scott Sandison. Then a minute and 27 seconds later, Joe Williams beat 'the Pickering net- "minder from Todd Healey" and Scott Wallace. Kevin Long scored his second of the night at 9:19 of the third period assisted by Sean Fewer. Then with 51 seconds left in the game Todd Healey put one away with Sean Fewer and Joe Williams drawing the assists. Final score 5-0 Port Perry. CTC's next regular league game is at home on Jan. 18 when they will host Whitby at 7:45 p.m. in the new arena. Port Perry to host figure skaters Pineridge Interclub figure skating competitons will be held in the Port Perry arena on Sat. Feb. 18, 1978. Included in this Eastern Ontario section are ten clubs: Cobourg, Port Hope, Newcastle, Bowmanville, Orono, Oshawa, Whitby, Ux- bridge, Ajax and Port Perry. Each club is eligible to enter three competitors (boys and girls) in each of eight events. The competitions begin at 8 a.m. starting with figures. Dance and freestyle cate- gories will be performed in the afternoon and evening. The Bronze interpretive event will be held in the old arena with the winners per- forming at the new arena in the evening. Awards will be presented to the winners at the end of competition. With an admission price of 50 cents, spectators are expected to number about 1000. The Pineridge Interclub competitions are sanctioned by the Canadian Figure Skating Association. Cochrane didn't score on let go with a backhand shot as Lindsay goalie Brett Flamingos tied for second place this play, but the team won 7 - 3 at the new arena Big 7-3 win over Lindsay After spotting Lindsay Muskies an early two-goal lead, Port Perry Flamingos stormed to the attack in the second period and went on to grab a 7-3 victory in Junior C action Sunday night at the new Scugog Arena. - Lindsay opened the scor- ing at the four minute mark of the first period on a breakaway by Dave Web- ster while Flamingo de- -fenseman Bill Owen was sitting out a minor penalty. The Muskies struck.again at the nine minute mark with Coombs scoring off .a long shot. Flamingo goalie Kevin Beer let the rebound get away from him, as Owen was sitting out - his second minor of the period for cross-checking. Beer seemed to be fighting the puck and coach Dave Nich- olishen pulled him at this point in favour of Charlie Durward. Muskies were playing a man short. ON ONE KNEE High scoring forward Dave Nicholson turned the game around for Port Perry 11 seconds later when he scored a spectacular goal. Picking up a lose puck out- side the Lindsay blue-line Nicholson broke in alone on goal. Hooked from behind, he went to one knee and while sliding towards the net, managed to control the puck and flip it past -the Lindsay startled goal- tender. Nicholson's effort put some spark into the Flamin- gos who until that point in the game had been out-play- ed by the hustling Lindsay team. Just over a minute later Port Perry went ahead on a hard slap shot by Brad Nicholson, after Dave Nicholson had dug the puck from the corner and fed him a pass in front. In the latter stages of the second period, Port Perry Misplaced player cards cause team withdrawal Due to an unfortunate mix-up with four players cards, Mersco Novice All- stars withdrew from a tournament Saturday in Sharon. The cards were accidently mis-placed and tournament organizers would not let the four compete without them. That left the team with just ten players and a vote among parents present decided that the team should withdraw. The team is confident that the mix-up will get sorted out and the all-stars will be on the tournament trail in the near future. .... Lucky 13 On Friday the Mersco Novice all-stars de- feated Uxbridge by a 5-1 score with Ray. Daniels picking up a pair of goals and Dave Burnett, Steve Durham and Bobby Goble chipping in with one each. Jamie Cannon, Steve Dur- ham and David Culbert were the play-makers, Steven Whalen and Mark Kendall shared the goal- tending duties and both are 13th, doing a fine job between the pipes. The next home game for the Novice all-stars is Fri- night night at the new arena with a 6:30 face-off time. Adults $1.25 OHA.
