Santa Claus last week and brought Mrs. Wendy Bate- man of Port Perry a Christ- mas gift she will remember for a long time. According to Mrs. Bate- man, she was shopping December 22 at the Port Perry Plaza when she dis- covered she had lost her wallet. While it. contained only a small amount of money, It did have all her personal papers such as drivers licence, social insur- ance card and the birth certificates of her children. Needless to say the thought of starting the New Twp. summonses 45 dog owners About 45 dog owners in Scugog Township who had not purchased the 1977 lic- enses for their pets were mailed -summonses last week by the Township by- law enforcement office. This is a dramatic in- crease from a year ago when the Township mailed out only two or three summonses to dog owners who had neglected to buy tags. The summonses, which were mailed out last week impose a $10 penalty which can be settled out of court. However, the recipient must either mail it or pay it in person to a court office in Oshawa. The $10 fine can: not be paid directly to the township office in Port Perry. By-law enforcement - officer Robert Kenny said that the issuing of summon- ses is a last resort and that those who will receive them had been contacted through the year by mail and by phone and informed that ° they had not yet purchased their 1977 dog tags. The final warning came in November when a seven- day notice was sent out in the mail. By the way, dog tags for 1978 have been on sale for several weeks now, and can be purchased at the Town- ship office on Perry Street in Port Perry. _ Star last week. cedures of replacing these - essential documents was not a very comforting one for Mrs. Bateman. She returned to the plaza that night and searched without success for the lost wallet. The next evening how- ever, she got a. welcome Christmas present a couple of days early when Wayne Taylor of Port Perry return- ed the lost wallet to her home. And this is where Saux comes in. It seems that the faithful dog who belongs to Bill Kendry at Port Perry Marine on Water Street, 'found the lost wallet in a snowbank on December 23. According to Mr. Taylor, Saux came into the shop at the marina with the wallet in his teeth and dropped it at his feet. : Mrs. Bateman was over- joyed. "I was a very thank-' ful person," she told the "It was the could have. I just wish there was some way I could really thank that dog." Saux, who is part Lab seemed unconcerned about all the fuss. He spends a lot of time around the marina, and according to Mr. Taylor he is forever retrieving things. In fact during the "summer months Saux has been known to swim out into We Now Have NO-LEAD GAS Accepted Credit Cards e Ladies COATS & JACKETS POSLUN & UTEX ® Ladies JUMPSUITS ® Ladies PANT SUITS } e Ladies DRESSES e Ladies BLOUSES ® Ladies SWEATERS e Childrens SNOWSUITS ® Childrens JACKETS ® Mens COATS & JACKETS (Merchandise Not Exactly as Illustrated.)
