Per Hvidsten spent an interesting and enjoyable. evening in Uxbridge Thurs- day.last week, when he was a guest of Uxbridge Minor Hockey Association. The occasion was the visit of a Norwegian Midget hockey team to Uxbridge, as a matter of fact, the first such visit to Canada. Mr. " Hvidsten, born and raised in Norway was present to assist in the 'event language difficulties could become a problem. However, most of the group of 44 players, parents and leaders had considerable knowledge of the English language. He did one official duty at the Uxbridge Arena when announcing: the names of the players, some of them rather strange to a Canadian tongue. PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Jan. 4, 1978 -- 17 Girls advance in curling playdowns A team of girls from Port Perry High School skipped by Kelly Fairman has ad- vanced to the Southern Ontario Ladies Curling Association Junior Tankard finals to be held January 28 in Leamington. The team, which included Martha McCallum, Tricia Fewer and Laural Holtby gained the birth in the finals by winning two games in a single round knock-out event December 28 in Port Perry. The girls first beat a team troy Sutton and then knock- ed off Uxbridge after having a bye in the first round of play. Should this team be successful at the Leaming- All-Stars defeated by Doreen Kendall On Decempfer 28 the Mersco Novice All Stars journeyed to Stouffville where they went down to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of the team they had beaten only 2 days previously. Friday, December 30 Beaverton played against the Merscos and were de- feated 4 to 2. This was a big -night for assistant captain Steve Durham who scored 3 unassisted goals. Captain. Mike Healey added 3 assists while Wilbur Lefort, Kane andHamilton had 2 assists each. Ray Hamlin played a steady game between the pipes. On Monday, January 2nd the Juveniles played Sun- derland in an exhibition game and defeated them 7-5. counter with the outcome not decided until the last 5 minutes. Rob Parker, Pete Lane, Scott Wilbur, Steve Geer, Mike Healey, Tim Kane and Henry Freiter scored for Port while Kane, Adams and Geer added 2 assists each. Peter Lane, Tom Perigoe and Mike Healey had single assists. Ray Hamlin and Merle Schewaga played well be- tween the pipes for Port.
