22 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Nov. 23, 1977 Defeat, tie for Novice by Doreen Kendall On November 18 Mersco Novice All Stars played host to super team from Stouff- ville. This was a hard fast game with both teams giv- ing their all. At the final whistle Stouffville was on top with a 5 to 2 victory. Scoring for Stouffville saw Tim Evans come in with a hattrick. Single markers went to Kurk Smyth and Sean McQuiggi with assists to Darrin Stevens. Port Perry's goals went to Ray Daniels and Dave Burnett. Dave Burnett also picked up an assist. Four penalties were assessed, two to each team. Saturday, November 19, the Mersco's journeyed to Oshawa where "they played against the Little N.H.L.' Bruins in the Civic Auditor- ium. This was a "see-saw"' battle from the drop of puck and ended up a 3-3 tie. The first period saw the opening goal scored by Port's Brent McMillan with assists to Bobby Goble and Warren Geer. Oshawa came back with a goal by John Nichola assisted by Alan Danchuck. Second period saw Ports Dave Bur- nett find the mark assisted by Ron Crawford and David Culbert. Oshawa's John Nichola retaliated Port's Dave Burnett bounced back assisted by Michael Gibson and Jamie Cannon only to have Oshawa's Bobby Carroll assisted by Kris Knigh tie it up. It was an exciting game in'an exciting arena for our neice team. Our next games gre Wed- nesday .night, Nov. 23 in Stouffville at 7 o'clock and Friday, Nov. 25 the Oshawa Bruins play a return game in the new arena at 7. With the help of a Wintario grant, Port Perry Kinsmen Club House League Hockey got two assists for Wes Lane while Steven Atchison got one. . Bolton 2 - Frank 2 Larry VanSchagen and~--~-- Darrin Desautels each got a goal unassisted. Neil Locke and Mark Farrell scored for Frank. Bob Hoogevan got the only assist.
