PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Oct. 19, 1977 -- 19 Midgets get off to a quick start by Glenn Geer Port Perry 4 - Peterboro 2 The Grant Menzies Pacers opened the Midget season on Monday, October 10 host- ing Peterborough and came up with a four to two victory. The Pacers took a two goal lead in the first period on goals by Charlie Brown and Dennis Franssen. In the second period and third period each team scored once with Rob Cannon and Tony Oxley scoring for the Pacers. Port Perry 3 - Pickering 2 On Wednesday, October 12 the Grant Menzies Pacers travelled to Pickering and came home with a three to two victory. There was no scoring in the first period but at the end of the second period it was a two all tie with Dave Canning and Rob Cannon scoring for the Pacers. Mark Cleveland scored the winning goal for - «the Pacers in the third period. Port Perry 6 - Uxbridge 3 On Friday, October 14 the Grant Menzies Pacers host- ed Uxbridge and came up with their third straight victory by the score of six to three. The Pacers were never behind in this game by keeping a three to four goal lead all night. Michael Geer, Tony Oxley, and Mark Cleve- land scored -single goals while Dennis Franssen scor- ed three for the Pacers. The two goaltenders for the Pacers, Raymond Gib- son and Jim Treen have been outstanding in the first three games coming up with the big saves when the team would get careless in their own zone, The next home game for the Pacers is Monday, Oct. 24 at 9:30 p.m. when they host Pickering. Atoms appear solid The annual meeting of the Port Perry and District Minor Softball Association was held Sunday morning and Wayne Venning was re- elected president. Mac Mac- Millan was also re-elected as vice-president as was trea- surer Jack Cook Jr. and secretary Vin Walker. Elected to the executive committee were Bill Fewer, Mike Mitchell, Dale Craw- ford, Garry McHugh, Garry Venning, Paul Solomon, Murray Parliment and Don Hurst, ) Several proposals were put forth for the new executive to work on in the new year. All registration shall be done at the ball park in late April this season. Lee Wilbur scored the only goal for Port assisted by Mike Dickson. Paul Goreski and Brian Treen split the goaltending chores and each played very well. One week later the Atoms came out flying and defeated Peterborough 5-1. Lee Wil- bur led the way with a pair of again this season goals. Mike Dickson had 1 goal and 2 assists. Tim Cannon and Fred Cockerton had the other markers for Port. Chris Lane and Rob Tobin had single assists. John Moore and Paul Gore- ski split the goaltending and each played a fine game.
