Special service at Museum Church by Betty Deeth The "Head'"' Museum Church on Scugog Island will hold their annual '"'Harvest Home Service" next Sunday, October 2, 1977 with. Reverend Robert Brawn as the special Auni- versary speaker. The Lake Scugog Historical Choir will sing, with soloist, Reverend Stuart McEntyre. This small church, built in 1860, has been tastefully decorated this summer in keeping with the period The painted, straight backed pews 'are typical. The black wrough- iron chandeliers from the former Prospect United Church hold coal-oil lamps which have been electrified, but the lamps at the sides will be filled with coal-oil, the wicks trimmed, and will be lit for the special occa- sion. If the weather is cool, the box stove at the rear may have to be put to use. This functional stove with its special heating duct on top used to keep the Man- chester Township Hall warm. The bench facing the stove on the back pew - was where the young boys would sit to keep the fire stoked with wood. The pump organ may need someone with a strong arm to work the bellows to help the organist out. After the singing and special service, coffee and pie will be serv- ed in the Tea-room adjoin- ing. This part was built on in approximately 1918, and it too has been freshly decorated.
