A large gathering enjoyed ham- burgs and hot dogs, games and races. Mr. Bert Hut- cheon admitted to being the oldest present, with Master Michael Smith being the youngest. Many thanks to Bob Barr of Stedmans Stores for giving the Sunday School a discount on the prizes. A big happy birthday to Kim Stone who contributed to the birthday box on Sun- day. The Uxbridge District Soccer Tournament was held in Uxbridge last Satur- day with 14 teams in atten- dance. Our Seagrave boys + who play for the Port Perry Orange Bombers put up a great fight. The Bombers won the first game in over- Gardening pays off Walter Stevens gardening * hobby paid off for him re- cently at the Port Perry Fair when he received the silver tray awarded by the Royal Bank for the highest UCW meet continued the Cartwright United Soccer team for their out- standing season. After los- ing their first three games came back to .win nine games in a row. So congra- tulations to the following boys for a job well done: Darren Best, Gordon Brown, Terry and Jamie Burch, Tom and Jerry Fowler, Arlen' Gaylord, Rickie Green, Robert Hoogeveen, Greg Mason, Mark Mec- Connel, Craig Paisley, Ian Porter, Brian Tysick, Jeff Wallace, Jimmy White. And on the baseball front, our Seagrave greats were victorious over the Oakwood team by a large margin. Our Seagrave players and their families are planning a barbeque at the ball park at 4 p.m. on Sunday Sep- tember 18. Please bring your own food, barbeques will be available. Following the barbeque, Seagrave will play host to the team from Valentia in the last game of the season. A big thank you to Keith Puckrin from the 1st Sea- points in the garden pro- duce division. Walter had 23 entries obtaining 11 first, 5 seconds and 5 third prizes, including 1st prize winner in the Best Collection of Vege- tables. Walter was raised in the Manchester area and has had an interest in gardening. for many years. His father the late "Buster Stevens" also enjoyed his garden and Walter's son Bradley also received a few awards in the juvenile division of the fair this year. This is the third year of exhibiting for Walter and has been his most success- ful to date. He shares his love of gardening with his wife "Betty", who enjoys the flowers she grows very much.
