Heron The service at Burns Church got back to normal again on Sunday morning with' Rev. McEntyre back after completing his study course in California. He took his scripture lesson from Luke 22 and John 13 and the message was "I will build my Church" in which he gave some of the high- lights of his work through the summer. The choir sang "Surely, Goodness and Mercy" and Miss Christine Lindsay took charge of the children for Jr. Church. Next Sunday at 10 a.m. Miss Joan Mellor, who will soon be leaving for mission- ary work in Australia will be with us to speak to the church school. Also next Sunday morning at the regular church service, Mr. Grant MacDonald of Port Perry will give us a report and his reflections on Gen- eral Assembly held at St. Andrews Church, Toronto in June. Come to the Mardi Gras Friday Night Blackstock Arena The regular September meeting of the Ashburn group of the W.M.S. was held in the Church parlour Wed. night of last week. Helen Batten gave the open- ing devotions and the study, which was chapter five from our Study Book, Encounter with Christ, was taken by Lois Daw. Members parti- cipated in the discussion. The next meeting will be the fall thank offering meet- ing in the church and an interesting and worth while program is being planned. Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Ashton and sons Ronald and Arnold also Mr. and Mrs. Don Purdy of Mona Mills have returned from an en- joyable trip to Vermont and New Hampshire, coming home by beautiful Lake Placid. Miss Nancy Richardson of Bridgetown spent the week- end at her parents home, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Rich. ardson. Miss Fern Stephen of Toronto visited friends in the area on Thursday of last week. A number of ladies of the Community attended the trousseau tea at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dixon in honour of their daughter Lorraine who will be marr- ied next Saturday. Mrs. D. Ashton and son Ronald visited last week with. Mr, and Mrs. Cecil Vicers of Fergus while in the area Ronald registered for another year at Guelph University. President Margaret Davis welcomed visitors from Can- nington and Scarborough Horticultural Society as well as Mr. and Mrs. Murray Hutchinson, the latter being the Director for the Ontario Horticultural Society. His delivery was simple 'and his answers.. straightforward and easily understood by all in atten- dance and it was a real pleasure to listen to some- one who was obviously very. knowledgable about his chosen subject. He als pre- sented some .very beautiful slides of Hawaii and urged his audience to bring back seeds from other world countries which they might visit, in order to better understand their various plant cultures. ~ Fern Munns thanked the speaker and Marg Davis then proceeded to announce" --the ~prize winners of the ~ evening. Gibb Marlow re- ceived the award for Best Specimen for his Miniature Glads and Doris Marlow for Best Decorative (that's a team that is difficult to beat!). Mary Housego was awarded the prize for Best Novice Class Arrangement. Judges Beth Frost and Edna Love were to be commended on what must have been a lot of decision making on such a large number of entries. Marg Davis then expressed her appreciation for the large attendance at what was obviously a very successful show.
