Mr. and Mrs. John Stone ° spent a few days last week holidaying in the Haliburton area.' Diary of a 'DAY FOUR Tuesday was sunny with west winds. We saw blue herons and an osprey near Canal Lake. At Kirkfield we had a ride up the big hydrau- lic lift lock. We were the only ones in the lock at that time. We also saw two big beavers which crashed through the bushes right beside our canoe. The rest of that day . was routine paddling cross- ing Balsam Lake to Rosedale on highway 35 by 6:00 p.m, The distance for this day was 23% miles in 8 hours. DAY FIVE On Wed. the weather was clearing and winds were light so we decided to try to make it home. We-travelled Cameron Lake to Fenelon Falls and Sturgeon Lake to Lindsay where we had lunch. We both noted that the water in Lindsay was the worst for pollution and the only place that had 'unsafe swimming signs. Once we passed Lind- say, the water improved a Come out and support our Greenbank ball team when _they play their. final game this- week against - Port Perry. As for time and plage enquire from any o team. Good luck Boys! and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Smith | spent a week's holidays in Maine, U.S.A, canoe trip great deal. I commented to Rob that I didn't need signs to tell me the water wasn't safe, 'It reminded me of the Don River in Toronto. Of the whole trip this was the worst section of water and shore line that we had gone through. The shore- line by the locks in Lindsay was the only beautiful spot. After Lindsay, paddling up the Scugog River to Lake Scugog seemed to take for ever, We reached Scugog Island by 8:30 p.m. During the trip we had been paddl- ing about 40 strokes per minute and there: wasn't any change even on this last section. We didn't talk much, just paddled toward Port Perry. This was one of the finest sections of the trip. The sun and wind had dropped. The moon was - # high and the lights from Port were bright. It was a serene way to finish an arduous day. The distance covered for this last day was 40 miles in 14 hours when we touched shore at 11:00 p.m. again. lifetime. and slimmer. pear. counterwej ca of wel oi IQ Wt. Foreveris a long, long time.
