Mrs, Phoenix introduced visitors from the area level of the Women's Institute, Mrs, H. Lewis, Mount Albert, Past. President; Mrs. H. Wotton, Blackstock, President; and Mrs. Cawker, Port Perry, P.R.O. Mrs. Cawker spoke on the Ontario Provincial birthday party held at Bingham Park in Kitchener. The Women's Institute was formed at the Erland Lee home at Stoney Creek where the constitution was written. This home is now a museum home run by the W.I. It is hoped in the next three years a fund will be raised, the earnings of which will pay for the upkeep of this home. Mrs. Phoenix spoke on the life of Mrs. Marion Fulton of Winnipeg, who is Dominion representative for the A.C.W.W. (Associated Country Women of. the World) which is a world wide association of - all country women from all parts of the world. The meeting for 1977 is to be held in October at Nairobi, Kenya. The motto for the month was, '"Where music is ap- preciated, happiness reigns'. Mrs. H, Phoenix ably cover- ed the topic showing the different types of music which suits different types of people. A sing-song and contest were enjoyed. The draw for a quilt which had been made by the W.I. members of Green- bank took place, Mrs. Lewis doing the honours. Mrs. Carol Jeffs of Don Mills, a niece of one of our-mem- bers, was the lucky winner. A birthday cake com- memorating the 80th birth- day .of the Institute was cut by our guest, Mrs, Cawker. After singing O Canada and the Insitute grace we sang Happy Birthday to the hostess for the day. A lovely luncheon was en- joyed by all. Visitors Recent visitors at home of Mrs. E. Bigelow was the Secretary of that Company, and did a very gret deal of work in furthering the scheme. His fellow citizens looked upon that roadway as a fitting monument to his industry. Mr, Aaron 'Ross was Presi- dent of the Company and the route of the road was surveyed by ' Mr. W.E. Yarnold. This roadway is now controlled by Counties of Durham and Ontario. The Durham end was widened and much improved in 1933, Ontario County started to widen the west end in 1934. Before the Cartwright Roadway was built people used to have to go fifteen or sixteen miles around to reach Port Perry from Cartwright, so it is not sur- prising that considerable money was subscribed 'to- ward the project.
