Larry, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ken Elson of Prince Albert is continuing his strong pitching this year as he led a Kemptville team to their third consecutive junior title in a Lions fast- ball tournament held in Ottawa over the August 1 weekend. After winning the junior title the Kemptville A's entered the senior compe- tition and just failed to take the top honours in that division as well. Larry's strong work on the mound was very much in evidence during the four day event in Ottawa. In the junior competition he pitch- ed 21 full innings, allowed just four hits, no earned runs, and fanned 39 batters. And in the senior compe- tition his record was even more impressive. In 28 itching innings he had 54 strikeouts (an average of, almost two per inning) and allowed just three earned runs. Accomplishments like this don't go unnoticed of course, and, Larry was selected most valuable pitcher in both the junior and senior sections, and his .500 batting average won him the most valuable play- er in the junior division. Oshawa Merchants, the Ontario senior fastball champions ran into Larry's strong arm in one game of the tournament as the Kemptville A's beat them 1 to 0. Larry fanned 18 batters and held the Oshawa team to just two hits. His record for the tourna- ment was an amazing 93 strikeouts through 49 inn- ings pitched, and he gave up just three earned runs. An all-round athlete who learned his minor ball in Port Perry, Larry plays defence for the Junior O0.H.A. Ottawa 67's during the winter months. Bombers lead by 9 pts. The Port Perry Orange Bombers could be headed for an undefeated season. With just three regular sea- son games remaining the soccer team has not lost a game and is nine points out in front in the league. stand- ing. The Bombers continued their winning ways last Thursday night in Uxbridge when they beat the Purples 3 to 0 on a two goal perfor- mance by Andy Sytsma with assists on both going to Scott West. The third marker came off the boot of Barry Willerton on a solo effort. With their record intact and the season winding down, the Bombers have to be the odds-on-favourites when the cup final playoffs get underway in a couple of weeks, DON'S CUSTOM CONCRETE Quality Workmanship Basement Floors Garage Floors Patios - Sidewalks Concrete Steps FINISHING Free Estimates PHONE 985-2588 1) -- : oy SOFFIT B FASCIA Which Siding is Best for Your House? The first goal was scored by the Maroons then five minutes later the Green Hornets retaliated with a goal by Ray Daniels. Even though the Hornets were defeated it was a very good game and they did not give up. But once again they were out numbered 11 to 15 which meant that each boy had to play the full 40 minutes without substitutes. Well done Hornets.
