By Mrs. Earl Reader Mr. and Mrs. Joe Dowson «7 motored to Port Elgin a week ago and spent the weekend with four cousins. Recently Clara had the experience of jury duty for parts of four days. Mrs, John Sweetman had a very. interesting experi- ence when she suddenly decided to take flight by '-« herself to Winnipeg, The event was prompted by thoughts of a former neigh- bour 'and friend, Mrs. «Bertha Valentine, who used to live across the road on Scugog Island, Mabel found her friend, now' 89, living with her daughter and hus- band, Mr. and Mrs, C. E. Dallman. They. just had a . great time life on * Scugog. Mabel also enjoyed the flight itself, as previous arrangements: were so well planned for her by the travel agent, Mrs.. Waite. Mrs. Clara Thompson an. exceptionally lively week. For many years, she has been a member of Thornhill Women's Institute so she has a double interest in it and the Scugog organ- ization. Therefore on Thurs- x had day, the former had their June meeting at Alva's home when 14 members and - two men arrived about 10:30 a.m. The president of Scugog W.I. Mrs. Elizabeth Stichmann and Mrs. Reta Wilson had also been invited. After their meeting, they enjoyed a light pro- gram, followed by a pot luck picnic lunch. took the group to the Mus- eum buildings including the "Head" Church which has recently been_re-decorated and brightened up. On Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Morehouse visited at - the parental home of Mr. and Mrs, Clare Thompson to celebrate a double wedding 'anniversary. Thornhill neighbours, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Martin; were also pre- sent. In the evening, Alva's nephew, Joe O'Brien from Ottawa, called as he was passing through on a busi- ness trip. Having retired from the navy, he is now a representative of the Crane ° Co. of Canada. Tickets will soon be avail- able for the Strawberry Sup- per at the Island Community Hall on Wednesday, July 6. It must be correct, without any assis- tance, For this accomplish- ment, there will also be an award, as it is considered very important. After Church, members gathered for a meeting to bring us up to date re finances and activities. It was learned that there will be a donation of several new hymn books by family of Mr. Glen Hood in his memory, as he used to sing in the choir and was always interested in music.
