The weatherman co- operated as heavy rain earlier in the day threaten- ed to cause cancellation, but all turned out well, The parade left the High School at 6:15 p.m. and wound it's way to the Lake- front Park. Included in the parade were 4 "T" ball teams, 5 squirt house league, 5 Bantam girls, Legion © Squirts, Grant Menzies PeeWee's and Ballard Lumber Midgets. Scugog fire department had two trucks to lead and com- plete the parade. It was too bad a band could not be obtained as this would have made a big difference. At the Park, all teams lined up around the infield as councillor Richard Drew officially opened Minor Soft- ball Week. Peter Christie of Grant Menzie PeeWee's pitched the ball and Paul Robinson of the Legion a! - vd N In charge of the play. Jennifer Pelow, "It takes a lot of concentration." Squirts was the catcher. Councillor Drew showed great power as he hit the first pitch well. Then a "T"' ball exhibi- tion was held with Country Village playing Dowson's Red & White. Squirt House League teams played 2 innings as did the Bantam girls. The main game saw J. Foley Plumbing of the Oshawa City and District League edge by Malmont farms of Nestleton 3-1 in a good ball game. Buddy Yahn pitched Foleys to the win with a good assortment of pitches which kept the Nestleton batters off guard. Randy McLeod pitched almost as well in giving up the loss. The difference was an error and a two base hit with two men on which gave Foley's their three runs. Nestleton had bases loaded twice but could manage to get only one run. These two teams put on a (continued on page 18) Scugog WI plan Auction Sale The regular meeting of the Scugog Island W.1. was held the evening of June 15th. The President Elizabeth Stichmann gave a warm welcome to all, and opened the meeting with the singing of the Ode and repeating the Mary Stewart Collect. Roll Call was answered by 18 members and 6 visitors by each presenting a painting or some other form of handi- work. A splendid Motto was given by Helen Hortop, "Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder'. Sec. report given by Christina and Tres. report by Eliza. The money that was-don- ated to the Museum from the W.I. has been used for an old type telephone, Daffo- dil style, to be installed .in the log cabin. Madeline Cawker gave an interesting report from: the District Annual held at Brooklin. Alva Thompson reported on trip to the Erland Lee home. Although it rained, didn't seem to dampen the spirits of the members, for everyone seemed to have an enjoyable day. Helen Fedyk reported on final arrange- ments for the Auction sale, July 16, each member is requested to bring 2 pies or 1 pie and 1 dozen tarts. Please take note. More articles would help a lot and (continued on page 19) Break-in Durham regional police report the theft of $1,000 in cigarettes, liquor and cash from the Moore Park Restaurant on Highway 12 near Brooklin, early Friday morning. Police report someone pryed open a door at the restaurant and kicked in the liquor cabinet sometime between 1:45 and 6:20 Fri- day.
