Yi PORT PERRY, ONTARIO -- WEDNESDAY It's A Beauty: Scugog Arena Open It's been over two years since the committee appointed by the Arena board reported to council on the need and financial con- sideration for the construc- tion of a new arena to meet the area's growing demand on recreational facilities. On Monday, Jan. 3, 1977, the dream became a reality with - the opening - of the doors to the Scugog Com- munity Memorial Centre and the subsequent doubling of ice time available to users. Officials say ice time available to the community as a whole has doubled with the use of both arenas, although each organizations using the arena may not individually double their ice time. Most organizations, such - as the minor-hockey assoc- iation and the figure skating club, have eagerly snapped up additional ice time. With only minor "small change" items yet to be worked out with contract- ors, the arena has reason to point with pride at the total - price tag of the arena. Estimated at about $750,000 by the new arena commit- tee two years ago, there will... be a small budget surplus... something of a miracle in these days of rapid infla- tion. .
