On Friday, the 17th, Mers- co Novice downed a visiting Port Hope by a score of 2-0. Jim Abraham opened the scoring for Mersco assisted by Dave Burnett and Craig Menzies. The second goal went to Craig Menzies assis- ted by Andy Sytsma and Dave Burnett. John Moore and Brian Treen registered the shutout. The following day, Mersco were guests at the Lakefield Novice Tournament where they distinguished them- selves with some fine play. In the first game the Port Perry boys downed the local Lakefield club, 3-1. - Scoring for Mersco were Steve Dur- ham (2) and Dave Burnett, Santa Claus receives help Santa Claus made an early visit to Port Perry Sunday afternoon. Santa sent out a distress call to the Port Perry Snowmobile Club saying that he had broken a runner on his sleigh. Dave Ballingall rushed home, got his snow- mobile and sleigh and went out to pick up Santa. They arrived at the Latchum Centre about 1:30 to the cheers of 100 boys and girls. The Port Perry Senior Citizens were invited to come and see the children receive their gifts from Santa Claus. After Santa had visied with each child and left to make other calls .in town, coffee, cake and cookies were served to the Seniors, children and parents. assists going to Sytsma, Warriner and Van Camp, 'Mersco lost the second game, 3-2, to a good club from Keswick. Keswick jumped into an early lead at the 28th second of the first period and followed it with a second, five minutes later. Mersco finally got on track and in the second period they dominated. ATOM LIONS CLUB 4 UAW 1 Ed Summers had a pair for Lions while Meisner and Bowmeester assisted. Tre- vor Kennedy scored UAW's goal. SCUGOG LUMBER 1 SWAMP GARAGE 1 Clodd scored for Scugog while Cockerton replied for Swamp. PEE WEE Glen Vallie 13 - Wes Lane 0 Ray Bright led the way with six goals and 1 assist. Al Tran picked up 4 goals and 3 assists. Tim Bouw- meester rallied for a goal and 3 assists while Jeff . Novice plays excellent hockey Menzies. The third period saw Mersco have all the play with Lee Wilbur scor- ing from Chris Lane to the game. It was all Port until Keswick got a break-away with 1:42 remaining in the game. They managed to squeeze one past 1 ersco goaltender to clogé out the scoring. Mersca Novice are to be congratulated for a fine effort English tallied a goal and 2 assists. Mike Cleveland pocketed the other goal along with an assist. Arnold Bell hustled for 3 assists. Al Bouwmeester recorded the shut-out, his third big one of the season Frank 3 - Bolton 3 Neil Locke, Rob Hooga- veen and Eddy Wilcox tallied for Franks with Kevin Bradt and Mark Penny receiving assists. Paul Rioual, Rob Long and Scott McHugh replied for Bolton's with Paul Rioual, Brad Fulford and Scot McHugh assisting. BANTAM Emmerson 2 - Goreski 1 Jason Stang and Dave Milton scored for Emmer- son's with Dale Geer, Jason Strang and Steve Ashmore assisting. Robbie Fellows scored the unassisted goal for Goreski's. The second period was well played as Brooklin scored the only goal of the period. Ken Vipond scored from Murray Down. _ Brooklin really poured it on in the third with some fine passing plays. Murray Down started it off from Ian Down. Then Ian Down scored from Murray Down and John VanHeuval. A minute and six seconds Ian Down scored his fourth of the day from Murray Down. Bill Down finished off the scoring from Ken Vipond and Ken Down. Charlie Nennis recorded his fourth big shutout of the season. Smit's 2 - Utica 2 Smit's gathered their power together to produce - their first point of the sea- son off the high flying Utica club.
