@ Scugog Township Council will ask Durham Region to consider the installation of "ruffle strips" at the inter- section of Regional Road 7 (Island Road) and Highway 7A. Deliberate damage to cedar trees Whitby Detachment On- tario Provincial Police urge snowmobilers to report any deliberate damage to pro- perty caused by other snow- mobilers. The warning came after snowmobilers damaged 14 cedar trees on the property of Joan and Patrick Jarvie, valued at $70. Police said the small cedar trees were quite visible above the snow and would appear that dam- age was deliberate. "It is this type of action by some snowmobilers which gives all snowmobilers a bad name," states an OPP report. "Ruffle strips" or speed bumps are raised ridges across the pavement that get progressively closer as the vehicle moves closer to the intersection, serving as a warning that the motorist is approaching a stop. The move to get the "Region to consider the "ruffle strip" came at the Monday meeting of Council after councillors learned their latest effort to get flashing lights installed at the intersection had failed. After efforts to get the Region to install the lights failed, council attempted to take the cause to MPP Bill Propose "ruffle strips" for Island Newman. A letter from Newman before council Monday revealed that the Region was standing firm on their earlier position. Coun. Jerry Taylor (Scugog Island) disagreed with the Region's findings, and said he didn't want to give up attempts to get the flashing lights. He suggest- ed it would take a fatality before such a light is installed. "That frightens me," said Mayor Lawrence Malcolm. "I'm being held responsible for the next fatality at six different intersections in the township right now." Issue warning stickers Scugog township Council has adopted a policy that gets tough with motorists who park on Township road- ways and create problems for snow removal crews. The township will issue warning stickers after the next snowfall only. After that, cars that are left parked in the roadway dur- ing snow removal operations will be towed away. Council Monday night con- sidered the possibility of issueing a series of warnings and-or registered letters to individual motorists in areas where there have been such problems in the past like the Portview Beach area. The scheme was too invol- ved, council felt, and would take a lot of time and work to administer. OPP demonstrate breathalyzer On Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1976, and Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1976. Prov. Const. Const. Dunham gave the class a demonstra- tion on the functions of the breathalyzer and a talk on drinking and driving. Prov. Const. Lowe, a court officer, spoke on court procedures. A general discussion period was held and proved very enlightening. SKIPMEALISIIRAB I OD! TNA JE lu Me BRU. ELTONMINCOGN ITO ANON MT HH MANN MENOTT IMI NNARDS CHA No Hs EN HA u.
