PORT RQ PERR by Scott Wilbur .The Murray Williams Bobcats Midget 2 came up big on the weekend as they defeated Markham, Bow- manville and Port Hope in succession. On Thursday, Nov. 25 the Bobcats flew past Markham 8-2. "Arnie" Ashmore opened the scoring as he rifled~a drive past the start- led Markam goalie. Mark- ham took a quick 2-1 lead - but Port fought back as Bryan Myers blasted a shot into the net to tie the score at the end of one. Parker and Geer picked up assists on this goal. The Bobcats exploded in the 2nd and 3rd period as they scored 6 un- answered goals. Mike Hamilton earned his pickles as he led the way with 2 goals. Byran Myers played an outstanding game on de- fence as he potted 2 goals and an assist. Wilt Fellows scored in his first game as a Bobcat. Bullock and Hope picked up single goals to conclude the scoring. Assists went to Clévland, Youngie, Ashmore and Geer. Craig Larmer turned in a solid performance in the nets for the Bobcats. Two days later the Bob- cats travelled to Hampton to face Bowmanville and defeated them 4-3. Rich Young opened the scoring with a blast from the slot that zipped by the opposing goaltender. Bowmanville came back to take the lead 2-1 but 3 goals in succession by Port enabled them to grab the + victory. Rick Hope let a drive go that whizzed by the goalie to * make the sgore 2-2. Dave Canning made it 3-2 when he pickedfup the puck up at centre ite, deked the de- fensemen "out of his socks and pulled the trigger before the goalie had time .o react. "Pickles" Hamil- ton continues to play out- standing hockey as he pott- ed the fourth Bobcat goal. Bowmanville came within one but time ran out. "Bubbles" Treen played an outstanding game as he made several spectacular saves. "Curly" Glenn Geer and Paul Kane are doing a fan- tastic job in coaching the team to victory after victory. On Sunday, Nov. 28 Port defeated Port Hope 3-0. Steve Geer .opened the scoring with a blistering drive from the slot unassisted. Tony Oxley scored the second - goal as he banged in a pass from "Pickles" Hamilton. Rick Young picked up the other assist. Ports final goal was potted by Wilt the Stilt 'Fellows. - Dave Cann- ing and Craig Larmer assisted on the final goal. The Bobcats next game is Thursday, Dec. 2 against Uxbridge. Busy week for Pacers win one of four games The Grant Menzies Pacers had little trouble handling Orono Nov. 22, de- feating them 6-2. Peter' Lane led the Pacers with two goals, both coming in the first period. Mark Lee picked up the rebound after Greiner hit the post and Lee also assist- ed on the Tom Perigoes booming shot from the blue line. The Port Perry midgets eased off in the middle period and Orono retaliated with a pair of goals, but the third period again belonged to the Pacers. Robert Baird also picked up a rebound when Owens shot hit the pipes and Jay Adam caught the Orono goalie looking the other way to count the final goal. / Sportsi.and Assists went to Owens with two and Danny Taylor, John Robertson, Dennis Franssen Mike Healey, Rob Baird counting singles. The Pacers had some tough luck in Bancroft over the week-end. Their first game was played at 10:30 Friday night against Thorn- hill and ended in a 2-2 tie. Scoring for Port Perry were Don Taylor from Pete Lane and Rob Greiner from Terry Flieler. The second game was a 2-1 loss to Belleville. Belle- ville opened the scoring but Port Perry tied it in the second period on a goal by Rob Baird with Rob Kemp earning the assist. The final game was also a loss, 5-1 against Bancroft. Penalties were hard on the Pacers and the Port' Perry boys found the host team just too tough to handle short-handed. Griener was the lone scorer for Port Perry. The bright spots of the week-end were the M.V.P. awards given to Greiner in the first game and to Tom Perigoe in the game against Bancroft. Well done boys. PeeWees win one, lose one Stone's Real Estate Pee Wees played an exhibition game at home against .the Oshawa Little N.H.L. Canadians on November 22 and came out the winners by the score of four to two. Port opened the scoring at the 48 second mark of the first period on a goal by Todd Manzies assisted by' Jamie Lane and. Kevin Long. Oshawa tied the score 1:20 left in the first period. Stone's opened the scoring in the second period at the 3:24 mark on a goal by Jamie Lane assisted by Alan Ferguson and added to the score. at the 6:15 mark on an unassisted goal by Chris Martens. Oshawa closed the gap at the 7:23 mark to make the score 3 to 2 for the local gang but 26 seconds later Jamie Lane scored his second goal of the game assisted by Alan Ferguson to closed out the scoring for the game. , . On November 25 Stone's Real Estate travelled to Stouffville to play their first league game this year against this team and were edged by the score of 3 to 2. Port completely dominated the game for the first two periods and part of the third but they let down during the past part of the third period thus allowing the weaker Stouffville team to edge by them and win the game. With John are Phil Orde, Port Perry and Laing Cope, a past commodore for the Balmy Beach Canoe Club, and the)man instrumental in setting up the clinic. Canadian Canoe Assoc. officials feel that there is an excellent possibility of getting a canoe club started here, and hope to schedule a second clinic for sometime in February.
