All pro- - Visitors encouraged after Town Hall tour "Very impressed and en couraged' is how a group of Exeter visitors felt after they toured Port Perry's renovated Town Hall 1873 last Tuesday. The Exeter group, invol- ved in the early stages of their own Old Town Hall renovation program, heard about this community's suc- cess and decided to take a first-hand look and to pick up ' a few pointers for use in their own situation. There are many . things that parallel the Exeter ef- fort with the Scugog one. | Cedar Creek news By Mr. George Kilpatrick Mr. and Mrs. John Farrow of South River were last weekend visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Rick Larocque and Fall Special Complete Paint Job on any Car or ¥2 Ton Pick-up Truck for '175.00 B&W AUTO BODY GREENBANK - ONTARIO Wayne Mahaffy Prop. : ; : : with presentation of this ad. i | ; 4 985-7135 Rick Ellicott sons. It was the first time in nearly ° three years that the family had all been home together. It was the 30th wedding anniversary of the John de Boers. George Kilpatrick visited his cousins, the Misses Clara, Edith and Laura Brown in Toronto on Tuesday. Sorry to report that Auke Vandermeer is back in hospital in Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Trepanier of Toronto spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Victor Larocque. Exeter has a population of 3,400, about the same as Port Perry and Prince Albert. Like this community, where a new arena construc- tion project fund was being operated at the same time as the Town Hall campaign, the Exeter gioup points out that they, too, are seeking funds at the same time as a cam- paign to raise money for a $1 million recreation centre needed when their old arena was ordered closed. Although they've raised about $17,000 60 far, they say the community harbours mixed feelings toward the effort. Only after a wrecking crew demolished the tower on the town hall did a general awareness in the community surface. Seems that word about what Town Hall 1873 has accomplished is getting around, judging from a visit last week by Exeter Heritage Foundation. The group is attempting to save the old Exeter town hall from the wrecker's hammer, and decided to get some advice and information from the Scugog" group. Seen here taking part in the discussions are, from left; Melba Ecker, Jenny Huntley, Marion Bissett, Joyce Monteith, and Jane Litt of the Town Hall 1873 Committee.
