Empringham The Greenbank congrega- tion will celebrate the 80th birthday of their church next Sunday Nov.7 at 11a.m. The guest speaker will be the Perry United Church. - We will also have special music. Everyone is invited to the celebration. The cubs, brownies and boy Scouts will all be there to march into church for the service. Mr. and Mrs. A. Minten ® visited Mr. and Mrs. Peter Korsten in Bowmanville on Sunday. We are pleased to report that Mr. A. McMillan, Mr. Franklin Phoenix and Mrs. Myrtle Thomas are home from the hospital. We hope > their health will steadily im- prove. The 99th anniversary of Sunderland Baptist Church #» was celebrated when the Fall Sing-Song and Gospel Rally was held in the Sunder- land Town Hall last Sunday. While the weather did not give its best co-operation, everything else on the pro- gramme seemed to be to the liking of 'the church mem- bers, and the vast throng of visitors who were present from far and near, including Willowdale, Toronto, Scar- borough, Whitby, Peter- borough, Ottawa, Lindsay, Woodville, Oakwood, Little Britain, Beaverton, Barrie, Newmarket, Pefferlaw, Port Bolster, Sebright, Green- bank, Uxbridge, Bobcay- geon, Vivian, Woolford, Markham, Stouffville, Port Perry, and many other places. The singing of the Edwards Family from Wool- i er, and the Chrystalairs From London, was enjoyed immensely by all present, and in appreciation for the enthusiastic response from the audience, both groups Rev. Bob Brawn of Port We welcome Mr; and Mrs. James Harwell to our vill- age. They have moved into the Cordingley home. Mrs. Ann Wills of Oshawa 'and 'Mis§ Dale Treleaven from Willowdale were with Mr. and Mrs. Don McKean. -on Sunday and helped cele- brate Don's birthday. Many happy returns Don. "Mr. and Mrs. Jack Stain- ton and Marilyn, brother of Mrs. Innes was with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Innes for Sun. Many parents and students attended commencement at Port Perry High School on Friday 29th. Congratula- tions to all students who won the awards and certificates during the evening. A num- ber of Greenbank young women and men received their graduation papers from grade 12 and their 99th Anniversary presented Pastor Guthrie with their latest album of gospel songs, to be used on the Pastor's Study Gospel Programme over CKLY Lindsay. Another indication of the enthusiasm of the audience was the large free-will offer- ing received, which amount- ed to $1,466.00. This has since increased to well over $1,500.00. Pastor Guthrie thanks the Port Perry Star for this opportunity to ex- press his sincere appreciat- ion to all who had a part in the dffering, the largest in the history of the church. It is hoped that 1977 will see the observance of a double anniversary for the Pastor and the people of Sunderland Baptist Church. Early in May, Pastor Guth- rie's 50th anniversary in the gospel ministry will be ob- served, and in October the church will celebrate its Centenary...one hundred years of gospel ministry in the village. Plans for these two events are already under consideration. On Wednesday evening Oct. 27 many from the com- munity attended the "Recog- nition Night' for Gerry Nel- son of Port Perry held at the Rock Haven in Peterboro. "Gerry has been a most cap- able Holstein fieldman for East Central Ontario area for 25 years. He assured all he is not retiring yet. On Saturday Mr. and Mrs. A. Couves attended a class re-union at 0.A.C. in Guelph and were supper guests at her sister's Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Montgomery of Eden Mills. They stopped over- night with Mr. and Mrs. R.W. As this coming Sunday is Annivers- ary Sunday there will be no Sunday school lessons but' the children will remain in "the church for the annivers- ary service. Please remem- ber is it at 11 a.m. for this Sunday only changing back to 11:30 the following week. Last Sunday awards were presented to 35 children for record attendance at Sunday School through the past year.
