Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bailey. Mr. and Mrs. Allan Bailey and family were Sunday supper guests with Mr. and Mrs. Hector Short- ridge. Mr. and Mrs. Hector Shortridge, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Shortridge attended the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Manns (Jury) at Columbus on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Graham. Mr. and Mrs. John Wolters attended the Ontario County Milk Pro- ducers Banquet held at Ux- bridge. Friday evening. Congratulations to Mr, Robert Riekstins who was awarded the Harbour Com- missioner's Award of Merit at a brief ceremony last week - only the second time . the award has been present ed. Bob is a resident of Blackstock on the old Scugog Road. The award was attained for rescuing a man from the cockpit of a submerged aeroplane. Blackstock Nature Nuts Number 3 - On Oct. 5th at the Blackstock United Church we held our third meeting. Our leaders taught us how to quilt and about the Durham Regional Police ; Request takeover delay Port Perry lawyer Tom Jermyn who heads the Durham Region Police Commission was one of a group of Regional govern- ment officials and members of the police commission who met with Oshawa Solicitor- General John MacBeth in Toronto last week to plead their case for delaying the takeover of Regional police into areas in Durham Region now covered by Ontario Pro- vincial Police. According to Jermyn, Mr. MacBeth reserved his decis- ion but it's hoped he will be quick and favorable when he makes up his mind. Mr. Jermyn said the dele- gation explained to the solicitor-general the Durham regional Police can hardly hire and train the 42 men needed in so short a time. He said the 540 square miles yet to come under regional police jurisdiction is about double the size of Metro Toronto and will involve a variety of growing pains for the force. Mr. MacBeth was asked to allow the region to return to its recently-approved six year plan to expand to the northern areas rather than forcing it to be done "in one fell swoop", said Mr. Jermyn. Mrs. Campbell was the guests speaker and she talk- ed to us aboul the art of acting and about Art Appreciation. Mrs. Martyn talked to us about photo- graphy and Mrs. McLaugh- lin talked to us about indoor gardening. Blackstock Nature Number 5 - On Oct. 19th at the Blackstock United Church we' held our fifth meeting. All of the girls answered the roll call which was how I would define a good citizen.
