Board secures Fair property As continued Coun. Vern Asselstine was * the only member of council who disagreed, saying that the small Blackstock organ- ization shouldn't be com- pared with the larger Port Perry board. He saw the fair board as continuing the cul- tural, agricultural flavour of the community. "If you want to put a dollar sign on that, well...." Councillors Don Frew and Neil Hunter disagreed, say- ing that it is not fair to the rest of the community to keep carrying the financial burden of an increasing number of projects and WINTARIO TICKETS available at the Port Perry Star GENERAL MOTORS OF CANADA IS PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THE APPOINTMENT OF: PHILP PONTIAC BUICK LIMITED 150 WATER STREET PORT PERRY - ONTARIO AS AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR: Pontiac - Buick - G.M.C. "When is it going to stop?" said Frew. "We keep adding this kind of thing on the tax bill." Coun. Hunter also sugges- ted that the 'let George pay for it' philosophy leads to a more: liberal spending policy. 'People tend to be more careful when' they are paying the bills," he said. The delegation, which formed a committee of the fair board agreed, after a short meeting of their own, with a suggestion by council that they take over owner- ship of the grandstand and judges stand. The catch, howevey, was that council providgh long-term lease for the land. du "We obviously don't want to do a lot of work on the structure, perhaps add or expand, without the land agreement," said one dele- gate. Council agreed that a 20- year lease be drawn up, and that it be reviewed by both the township and tlhe society before ratification. * Approve hospital budget continued closures, staff reductions and some hospital closings," said Mr. Miller, 'hospital budgets have still increased an average of more than 13 per cent over 1975. Since there will be no more funds available in 1976, hospitals must not exceed their final approved budgets. There will be no exceptions." Budgets for east central hospitals are up $95.5 million in 1976 from 1975. Hospitals were notified of their approved budgets July 28, 1976. Final budgets in- clude earlier constraints re- alized from bed closures, staff reductions, and selec- tive budget cuts, announced earlier this year. The 1976 budgets take into account additional funding for new programs and services in many hospitals. On March 12, 1976, Mr. Miller announced hospitals would be allowed increases ®» of up to 10 per cent for goods and services, and up to eight per cent for salaries, wages and other benefits when pre- paring their 1976 budgets. After all operating budgets were submitted to the Mini- stry for review, total monies requested exceeded funds available by more than 21% per cent. "By constraining expendi- tures in other provincial programs," said Mr. Miller, 'the provincial government agreed to provide additional funds, reducing the shortfall to only one per cent. Even with this further one per cent reduction in base budgets, * hospitals will be funded ® $211.3 million more in 1976 than in 1975." CALL US HOME HEAT KEN P.
