LEC Ee a ~ oa Canali - a "ty A CE - -~ PORT PERRY -Bob Ryan This week past the Mal- mont Farms team won the one they had to but lost others of less importance. On Wednesday, Sept. 2nd, the team travelled to Udora to play the final game in the best of three'series. On the last trip to Udora the team had been handed a 10-1 kill- ing by a team which seemed destined to advance to the next round. But the Mal- mont Farms team had forc- ed a third game; and a good game it was. Twenty-seven runs were scored in the first two games as both teams showed batting power and in the third game the batters far outshone the pitching as twenty more runs were scor- ed. The Malmont Farms team came out on the winn- ing side of an 11-9 score and will now advance against the Eastern zone Champion. The team from Udora show- ed their fine sportsmanship throughout the series and are wished continued good luck in their league play. On Monday Sept. 1st, the Malmont Farms team came asleep, stayed asleep throughout the game, and lost a vital game to the team Jets eliminate Udora, Meet E. Zone champions from Port Perry which evi- dently wanted the win. The score was 8-7, a score which does not reflect the play. And on Sunday, 'August 29th another memorable league meeting of the L.S. S.A. was held and another winner it was. This year rules, common sense, and a sense of fair play has been laid aside for a new way to run a league voting. This league is the only one around where you have to vate on whether to uphold a rule, and once again the executive was bogged down with an unend- ing supply of protests. If you can't protest it, we'll vote on it. At this same meeting the Malmont Farms team was to be voted on twice. They had, through fault of their own, coaching or otherwise, left themselves in the position of being accused to two dast- ardly deeds. Crimes for "which they would have to be punished. The results of this meet- ing, which lasted 'three hours, will not change the final league outcome any- way. The top five teams are all fairly close and any team could easily win - unless of course we have to vote on it. ETT EE ETT trainers, etc., = = = E 1976-77 season. The series which was sup- posed to have started on the Labour Day week-end was delayed due to the Port Elgin team playing in a tourna- ment. The first game of the series was played on Tues- day njght at the Joe Fowler Memorial Park with the second game tentatively scheduled for Saturday on the Port Elgin diamond. The Lumbermen will have their hands full in this series as all reports have the Port Elgin club as being a power- house and a possible threat to Coldsprings, the current Intermediate ""C" champ- ions. In Oshawa City and Dis- trict play, the Lumbermen are awaiting the outcome of a game' between Markham and Whitby to have been played on Tuesday night. Should Markham win, they will pass the Lumbermen and win the fourth and final play-off spot. Next weeks paper should have the league outcome and hopefully the league play-off dates.
